iPhone 4 orders cancelled by AT&T and Apple for the second time?

iPhone 4 orders cancelled by AT&T and Apple for the second time?

The iPhone 4 launch headache continues, with a second batch of supposedly cancelled handset orders.  After reports last week that AT&T had sent out emails telling iPhone 4 buyers that their orders had been declined - which the carrier explained as "balancing" out those who had accidentally double-ordered as the stock systems went into meltdown - both Gizmodo and Engadget have been inundated by another wave of messages from both AT&T and Apple saying they were "unable to complete the authorization process for your iPhone order" and that "as a result, we had to cancel your iPhone order."

No iPhone 4 microSIM swapping with iPad 3G confirms Apple

No iPhone 4 microSIM swapping with iPad 3G confirms Apple

As they're the only two devices right now that really use the smaller microSIM format, it comes as a shame to hear Apple confirm that swapping the cards between the iPhone 4 and iPad WiFi + 3G won't be possible.  According to the Apple UK FAQ for the iPhone 4, while the smartphone is provided - in the UK - unlocked and SIM-free, "your iPad microSIM card will not work with your iPhone."

Apple’s latest iPhone 4 innovation [Updated with video]

Apple’s latest iPhone 4 innovation [Updated with video]

Apple once again has built and delivered the most advanced mobile device in the market. Steve Jobs, during his interview at the Wall St. Journal conference last week, mentioned that his companies passion was to build the best products around and in this analyst’s opinion they have again set the bar by which other mobile phones will be judged.

This doesn’t mean that other competitors won’t catch up or include key innovations of their own, however for the time being the iPhone 4 and the newly named iOS4 is packed with innovation useful for everyday consumers and tech enthusiasts alike.
It may be easy for many people within the press - including the Apple naysayers - to look at today’s announcements and complain that there was anything truly innovative announced. Statements like these miss the broader picture of not only what Apple is doing but what Apple is doing for the technology industry at large. That being said, I want to highlight several things that require a deeper look.

Apple iPhone 4 Officially Announced

Apple iPhone 4 Officially Announced

Well, that didn't take long at all. Steve Jobs has come out on stage at this year's WWDC to blow the socks off everybody out there, and while he believes that the iPhone 4 is, “Beyond a doubt the most precise thing, the most beautiful thing we’ve ever made," we'll have to wait and see it in our hands (hopefully today) before we can make a final judgment. But, it's announced!

Apple ARM acquisition rumored

Apple ARM acquisition rumored

After rumors that Apple and AMD execs had been holding clandestine meetings, presumably whispering about CPUs and GPUs while nibbling on illicit biscotti, the city speculation now moves on to the possibility of an ARM acquisition.  According to the London Evening Standard, investors have been gurgling about how bringing the mobile chip manufacturer in-house "would make a lot of sense for Apple" since it would allow them to "stop ARM's technology from ending up in everyone else's computers and gadgets."

Apple iPhone HD to Use Custom Processor

Apple iPhone HD to Use Custom Processor

It's been hinted at before, and it's one of the least surprising things to be rumored so far, but it's still just a rumor right now, and it's about the iPhone HD. Sure enough, the rumors aren't going to slow down before that mysterious date in June, so you should probably buckle up. This time around, we've got word that Samsung has been ousted as the primary designer for the next generation iPhone's processor, with the Cupertino-based company focused on implementing their own designs. Which should sound familiar, as the A4 processor inside the iPad comes from these same origins.

Apple iPad Review

Apple iPad Review

The Apple iPad is here, and if ever there was a contentious gadget, this is it. We met with Apple this past week to pick up one of a few iPads let out into the wild early, and have been playing with it ever since. Already the subject of countless discussions, arguments and parodies - not least because of what it doesn't do rather than what it's actually capable of - there's also a grudging expectation that, if anyone can make tablets wildly popular, it's probably Apple. So, does the iPad live up to its promise, or is this really just an oversized iPod touch too big (and too expensive) for your pocket? Check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.

Apple iPad Bundled Up and Ready to Ship: the Guide

Apple iPad Bundled Up and Ready to Ship: the Guide

We are just days away from one of Apple's biggest launches to date. Many would argue that the iPad has even managed to surpass the original iPhone, and perhaps some analyzed numbers would help that theory along. Whatever the case, the fabled tablet from the Cupertino-based company is almost here. People all over the United States have begun to receive their notifications in one fashion or another. Whether you have the tracking number on refresh in your browser, or you've been told that you need to visit your local Apple Store to retrieve your reserved gadget, each story has the same ending: This Saturday marks the day you can stop wondering what Apple's tablet would be like, and finally get to play with it. But, what makes it tick? Why should you be interested in the tablet at all? Isn't it just a big iPod Touch? We won't dwell on the nay-sayers for this all-encompassing guide. Instead, we'll take a look at what we know, and skip the heresy. After all, with less than a handful of days remaining before the big day, there's no room for speculation.
