Sharp IS01 1GHz Android MID developer edition arrives in Japan

Sharp IS01 1GHz Android MID developer edition arrives in Japan

Back when Sharp announced the KDDI IS01 Android-based MID, alongside the consumer device they also promised a version tailored for developers.  That's gone on sale in Japan now, with Sharp hoping to drum up custom applications suited to the 1GHz Snapdragon MID.  Unfortunately, it's not all good news: while the IS01's spec sheet is positively bulging, developers won't have access to all of the goodies.

eviGroup Wallet Android MID on sale in May for €199

Since we've apparently entered the culling phase of the tablet story arc - goodbye HP slate and Microsoft Courier, we'll miss your shiny renders - it's good to know that devices are still entering production rather than being canned.  French firm eviGroup have just announced that their Wallet Android MID has entered production and should be on sale, for €199 ($264), from May.  Carrypad chased up some details from director Nicolas Ruiz, including how he sees the Wallet facing against the Archos 5 Internet Tablet and what sort of help they've had from Google.

EKEN M001 $100 Android MID gets reviewed

EKEN M001 $100 Android MID gets reviewed

Distributor concerns and underwhelming specs meant we were slightly less than convinced by the Haleron iLet Mini HAL Android tablet, but Shanzai reckon that - in its new EKEN M001 form - the 7-inch slate actually has plenty to recommend it.  A sub-$100 street price in China is no small part of that, of course, but apparently despite the 600MHz ARM9 processor and resistive display, it's actually "very responsive" and in fact the best implementation of Android on this sort of device that they've seen.

HOTT MD500 & MD700 Android MIDs get new video demo

We're getting a little tired of seeing Android tablets of which there's next to zero likelihood of a US or European launch, but HOTT's distribution agreements with big-name retailers like Fry's does at least leave us pondering a possible launch of their new slates.  Shanzai caught up with two new Android engineering samples lately, one 5-inch and the other 7-inch, both running OS 1.6.  In fact, they look a little like the newest versions of HOTT's MD500 and MD700 MIDs.

Enso zenPad Android MID just $155

Enso zenPad Android MID just $155

Plenty of Android-based mini-tablets and MIDs have graced these pages before, but seldom do they manage to be both commercially available and cheap.  The Enso zenPad - a rebadge of the SMiT MID-560 - is a 5-inch WVGA touchscreen MID running Android 1.6 (with a promise from the company to release Android 2.1 "within 1 month") with WiFi a/b/g/n, support for an external 3G modem, and 1GB of onboard storage.

HOTT MD500 super-budget Android MID taunts us on video

Remember the 7-inch HOTT MD700 MID spotted back at CES 2010 and tipped to be arriving at distributors priced at $120 apiece?  The Chinese company is back with another, smaller model, and the best news is that it should be even cheaper: the HOTT MD500 has a 4.8-inch display and runs Android, and will be just $92 for distributors (assuming you only use microSD for storage).
