More signs of a November launch for the Amazon Kindle tablet, as supply chain checks suggest that the bulk order of touch panel controller ICs used in the upcoming 7-inch slate should be in the retailer's hands - or, at least, those of its assembly partner - by the end of that month. ILI Technology (aka Ilitek) is supplying Amazon with 5m controller ICs, the Commercial Times reports, expected to show up in the $250 tablet that the online retailer hopes will best Apple's iPad.

Fusion Garage Grid 4 smartphone coming Q4

It's not just the Grid 10 that Fusion Garage has to show: the company also has a new smartphone, the Grid 4, which runs the same Grid OS as the slate. Based on Android - so compatible with apps from the Amazon Appstore - the Grid 4 has a 4-inch WVGA display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 processor paired with 512MB of RAM. AMD admits it’s ignoring smartphones

AMD has admitted that it ceded the smartphone processor space to rivals, arguing that the company's strengths in graphics don't lend themselves to the handset segment. Instead, SVP and product group manager Rick Bergman suggests, tablets are where AMD's future lies, with the company's Z-series APUs delivering a balance of video performance and battery life. Speaking in Colorado this week, PC World reports, Bergman also reiterated earlier denials of ARM-based chipset plans.

Apple didn't take kindly at all to Amazon launching the Amazon Appstore for Android to sell apps directly to Android smartphone and tablet users. The trademark infringement suit was swift and is still ongoing. Apple obviously has the trademark on "App Store" and feels that it will extend to "Appstore" too. The legal battle goes on and it appears that Apple will likely lose its battle to block the Appstore owned by Amazon.
