Amazon's Kindle tablet may be the most cloud-centric slate we've seen to-date, reports indicate, ironically making it perhaps the purest implementation of Google's cloud ambitions, despite the search giant reputedly having zero involvement in its development. In addition to delivering streamed music and video from Amazon's Cloud Player and Prime Video services, the Kindle tablet could also put all documents - both ebooks purchased from the retailer's virtual store, as with the existing Kindle ereaders, and user's own personal files - into the cloud.

Amazon Kindle tablet November launch looks increasingly likely

More signs of a November launch for the Amazon Kindle tablet, as supply chain checks suggest that the bulk order of touch panel controller ICs used in the upcoming 7-inch slate should be in the retailer's hands - or, at least, those of its assembly partner - by the end of that month. ILI Technology (aka Ilitek) is supplying Amazon with 5m controller ICs, the Commercial Times reports, expected to show up in the $250 tablet that the online retailer hopes will best Apple's iPad.

Amazon will only offer advertising-supported Kindle Fire tablets, injecting "special offers" into the standby screen of its Android slates, and giving no option to pay more to remove the promotions. The "special offers" concept was launched for e-paper Kindles some time back, subsidizing the upfront cost of the ereader in return for showing adverts on the homescreen (though not during actual ebook display); now, that same concept has been included in the new range of Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD tablets.

Kindle Fire HD tablets appear on sale at Amazon

The Kindle Fire HD 7, Kindle Fire HD 8.9, and Kindle Fire HD 8.9 4G LTE are all available for purchase on Amazon now, with their prices being, in order, $199, $299, and $499. The lesser two of the three devices have 16GB of internal storage while the 4G LTE 8.9-inch tablet has 32GB of internal storage - otherwise it's essentially the same as the wi-fi only model 8.9. These devices work with an updated user interface over the original Kindle Fire and include several software upgrades and features that set them aside from the rest of the ereader and media player mobile universe.
