Dell 9.99mm Adamo XPS ultraportable teaser kicks-off

Dell 9.99mm Adamo XPS ultraportable teaser kicks-off

It's a frankly astonishing time to start a teaser campaign - right smack in the middle of an Apple event - but Dell were obviously so upset by Apple's snook-cocking at their netbook range that they wanted to show off their upcoming super-skinny Adamo XPS.  The 9.99mm thick notebook has no specs, no details and no price, but then again it wouldn't be much of a teaser if everything was on a plate for you, would it.

Dell Adamo battery non-user-replaceable, fix price unknown

Dell Adamo battery non-user-replaceable, fix price unknown

One of the reasons Dell could keep the Adamo packaging so compact is because the luxury ultraportable ships with the battery already fitted.  It's a good job, too, as it turns out that the power pack for the 13-inch MacBook Air rival is non-user-replaceable, meaning once it has reached the end of its usable life (a figure Dell are not making any claims about) owners will need to send their Adamo back in to have it replaced.

Dell Adamo gets video unboxing

Dell Adamo gets video unboxing

Have you had enough of the Dell Adamo?  No, of course you haven't, so settle back and enjoy Notebooks.com's unboxing video of the luxury ultraportable.  Xavier has also shared some first impressions and, while Dell has come a long way from mainstream Inspirons with the Adamo, it doesn't sound like they're quite all the way up there in the MacBook Air league yet.

Dell Adamo 9 + VIA Surfboard C855 = Best 1080p netbook ever?

Dell Adamo 9 + VIA Surfboard C855 = Best 1080p netbook ever?

Dell had already confirmed that the 13.4-inch Adamo ultraportable was merely the start of a new high-end series of luxury computers, but signs of what's likely to be the next model - the Dell Adamo 9 - have already been spotted.  As we said at the time, the main question is whether Dell make what's presumably a 9-inch ultraportable into another Atom-based netbook, picks a more mainstream processor as you might find in the Sony VAIO TT, or takes another route.  Coincidentally, VIA announced their 1080p-capable Surfboard C855 reference design today, something that could well supply Dell's "another route".

Dell Adamo 9 HSPA ultraportable & Studio One 22 leak

Dell Adamo 9 HSPA ultraportable & Studio One 22 leak

Dell's own support site has once again tipped a few as-yet unannounced upcoming products, in this case what looks to be a netbook-rivaling version of the new Dell Adamo and a larger version of last week's Dell Studio One 19.  The document lists the Dell Adamo 9, presumably a 9-inch version of the 13-inch Adamo confirmed today, and the Dell Studio One 22, a 22-inch version of the All-In-One PC.

Dell Adamo vs MacBook Air

Dell Adamo vs MacBook Air

Buyers will have to wait until March 26th to see their Dell Adamo, but CNET have managed to score Dell's latest ultraportable early and, knowing what most of us are interested in seeing, have set up a shoot between it and the Apple MacBook Air.  Both are competitors for the "thinnest laptop in the world" title; on paper the Adamo clinches it, at 0.65-inches, but in the metal the non-tapered chassis looks chunkier than the curved Air.

Dell Adamo official: $1,999 on March 26th

Dell Adamo official: $1,999 on March 26th

Dell have officially launched their Dell Adamo luxury ultraportable, happily bringing to an end the months of teaser campaigns and posturing videos.  Dell plan a whole range of Adamo products, which makes the specs of this first notebook a little easier to swallow: the MacBook Air rival has an Intel Core 2 Duo 1.2GHz U9300 processor with 2GB of DDR3 memory, a 128GB SSD and integrated Intel X4500 graphics, in a cleverly designed casing that, altogether, weighs four pounds.

Dell Adamo second teaser much better: robots, lasers, less mood lighting

Dell Adamo second teaser much better: robots, lasers, less mood lighting

After Dell's not so much frustrating but merely pointless initial Dell Adamo teaser video, the company has thankfully decided to show us a little more laptop and a little less mood lighting the second time around.  There's still little detail in terms of exact specifications, but it does give a better look of an ultraportable that's certainly distinctive.
