10-inch Acer Aspire One breaks cover: Photo Gallery

The 10-inch Acer Aspire One isn't much of a mystery these days, with specs and estimated pricing both known, but until now we'd not seen photos of the netbook in question.  Now, courtesy of  Atharius, we can see exactly what changes Acer have made in scaling up their budget ultraportable from 8.9 to 10-inches: the white, glossy casing remains, but there are new end-cap details and, happily, the touchpad buttons have moved to their rightful place underneath, rather than either side.

Acer Aspire One with integrated AT&T 3G on sale Sunday

Acer's Aspire One will be available with an integrated 3G modem for just $99.99 as of December 14th, as long as you agree to two-years of mobile broadband service from AT&T.  Set to go on sale exclusively at RadioShack, as leaked earlier this week, the netbook is the 1GB RAM/160GB hard-drive model; it has an 8.9-inch display, WiFi b/g and comes in piano black finish.  However despite the low purchase price, you can't exactly call this a bargain.

10-inch Acer Aspire One coming Q1 2009

Acer will launch a 10-inch version of the Aspire One netbook in February or March 2009, according to Acer Taiwan president Scott Lin.  While Lin kept quiet on specifications for the larger Aspire, it will presumably offer the same Intel Atom processor as the existing model, only in a larger package and with a bigger display.

Acer Aspire One integrated 3G HSPA mod

In September T-Mobile Germany began offering the Acer Aspire One with integrated 3G; however the factory fit WWAN modem has been an elusive option for the rest of us.  As the breakdown of the netbook proved, however, fitting your own 3G modem shouldn't be too difficult a task: the intrepid tnkgrl has done just that, slotting a mini-PCIe HSUPA/HSDPA/EDGE/GPRS card into the 8.9-inch netbook.

Acer Aspire One WiMAX netbook coming in 2009

Acer Aspire One WiMAX netbook coming in 2009

While Acer had two new laptops on show for the Sprint XOHM launch yesterday, what could be argued is their most interesting device to support WiMAX was hidden from sight.  Laptop Mag grabbed some hands-on time with an Acer Aspire One WiMAX netbook prototype that had been lurking in a nearby Intel van; they weren't sure if it was a proof-of-concept or an upcoming product, but SlashGear can confirm that Acer will be offering a WiMAX option on the Aspire One starting in early 2009.

DIY Acer Aspire One UMPC

DIY Acer Aspire One UMPC

ToDo forum member stretracer18 loved his Acer Aspire One netbook, but wanted a touchscreen slate version instead; Acer not being forthcoming with such a UMPC, he created his own.  Now we've seen touchscreen modifications of netbooks before, but this is a full case reworking: the top and bottom sections of the Aspire One have been screwed together minus the keyboard in-between, with the lid flipped round to give access to the display (with touchscreen panel) and webcam.
