HP negotiating looser Intel Atom N270 usage rules?

HP negotiating looser Intel Atom N270 usage rules?

According to a DigiTimes report, HP are in negotiations with Intel regarding the chipmaker's Atom CPU restrictions.  Sourcing Taiwan-based notebook manufacturers, the claim is that HP want to use the Intel Atom processor in notebooks with displays larger than the usual 10.2-inches; HP's roadmap for 2009 includes an 11.6-inch model in Q2 and a 13.3-inch model in June.  The negotiations presumably concern the N270 Atom CPU, rather than the Z-series.

Zepto A12 netbook reviewed: slow but sturdy

Zepto A12 netbook reviewed: slow but sturdy

Road warriors who prize longevity over performance might find something to please them in Zepto's A12 netbook, which mixes an Intel A110 800MHz low-power processor with a more mainstream ultraportable 12.1-inch 1,280 x 800 display.  That CPU isn't going to crunch many HD movies, but the 10hr suggested battery life is enough for a lengthy work-day.

HP Mini 1000 netbook: 8.9 or 10.2-inch display, Atom CPU & 3G in December

The HP Mini 1000 netbook has been officially announced. Borrowing much of the design style of the HP Mini-Note 2133, only with a cheaper plastic casing, four versions of the HP Mini 1000 will be on offer: each will use Intel's 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, a change from the VIA processor used in the 2133.  Available today, the HP Mini 1000 offers Windows XP Home on a choice of 8.9-inch 1024 x 600 or 10.2-inch 1024 x 600 BrightView displays, 512MB or 1GB of DDR2 RAM and either a 60GB 4,200rpm hard-drive or 8/16GB SSD. In mid-December, the Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam Edition will launch, offering the 10.2-inch netbook with a casing matching the designer's Spring 2009 collection.  Then, in January 2009, the HP Mini 1000 with MIE (Mobile Internet Experience), a custom HP Linux build, will launch.

Raon Digital Everun Note benchmarks better than expected

Raon Digital Everun Note benchmarks better than expected

While we wait for the first proper English-language review of Raon Digital's Everun Note, there's definite interest to be had in the preliminary benchmark testing from UMPC Portal.  If you remember, Raon Digital themselves stirred up some interest pre-launch by announcing some very promising performance figures; at the time there was a collective assumption that they were too good to be true, but in fact that turns out to not be the case.

Steve from UMPC Portal has been able to comfortably use the Everun Note as a desktop replacement, with the setup you see here running two Firefox windows with five tabs, Skype and Livewriter with 434MB of RAM free.  In fact he's unable to tell the difference between the Note's performance in this setup, and that of a 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo laptop.

Everex gPC Mini Unboxing

Eight years ago, I was in love with Linux and I fell for it even more when I found Debian Linux. I dreamt about Linux being sold to the average Joe years ago, and today many companies do just that. I applaud Everex for taking a step to bring Linux-based computing to the masses.
