Boeing has announced that the latest version of its new 787 Dreamliner has completed its maiden voyage. This version is called the 787-9 and the aircraft flew for the first time on September 17 signaling the beginning of a comprehensive flight test program for the aircraft. The flight test program will lead to certification and delivery by the middle of 2014.

Europe is set to launch its new Vega rocket for the first time. This new rocket is a satellite launcher that is designed to carry multiple satellites into orbit and place them into precise orbital locations. The most interesting of the satellites looks like a metal disco ball with highly effective reflectors on its outer surface.

A new green aircraft called the eGenius electric airplane has taken its maiden voyage. This aircraft looks more like a glider than a Cessna and has a propeller mounted on the tail in the back of the plane.

Apple grabs music analytics tool to polish its Spotify killer

Apple is set to pay far more attention to what you're listening to, after acquiring the music analytics company behind Musicmetric, a tool which has previously helped bands like Iron Maiden fight piracy. The tech grab was quietly revealed when Musicmetric creator Semetric changed its registered address to that of Apple Europe in London, with the Cupertino firm also installing a high-level exec as a company director. Although what, exactly, Apple will do with Musicmetric is unclear - and the firm is declining to comment on specifics - it's expected to involve relaunching Beats Music as a more compelling Spotify alternative.

AeroMobile 3.0 flying car prototype debuts

Flying cars are something that many have dreamed about for generations. A car that can drive on the road, park in the garage, yet take to the skies when the driver/pilot wants is something that is undeniably appealing to many of us. A company called Aeromobile has unveiled the AeroMobile 3.0 prototype flying car in Vienna this week. The prototype has had a successful maiden flight and was developed in ten months by a team of 12 people.
