Motorola wants Nokia-style deal on Windows Phone 7

Motorola Mobility would consider adding Windows Phone 7 to its OS roster, CEO Sanjay Jha has revealed, but only if Microsoft could deliver a similar deal to which it agreed with Nokia. Speaking at the at the Oppenheimer Technology & Communications Conference this week, FierceWireless reports, Jha reiterated earlier comments that the company was still evaluating Windows Phone's long-term viability, and suggested that he did not believe that it, webOS and BlackBerry would all survive.

Motorola Mobility CEO Sanjay Jha has admitted that the company's research into phone design and functionality has led to tears among users, though the chief exec is more curious about the potential for consolidation with a mobile software business. In an interview with Fortune, Jha suggests that phone manufacturers acquiring each other is not necessarily the best approach, and that instead "consolidation across content manufacturers and hardware and software manufacturers" has more potential value. Given Jha threw out all software on Motorola's phones but Android, could the CEO be hinting at a potential Google merge?

Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha has blamed poorly tested third-party Android apps for underwhelming performance on Android phones and tablets, claiming that 70-percent of all of the returned devices the company sees are rejected because applications have affected usability. "For power consumption and CPU use, those apps are not tested," Jha said during a webcast of the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Global Technology conference. Motorola to offer Atrix-style laptop docks for other smartphones in H2 2011

Back in February, we put up our review of the Motorola Atrix 4G and its cool laptop dock accessory. That laptop dock turned the Atrix smartphone into a netbook that you could use for surfing the web and checking out connect on a larger screen. The smartphone had to be docked for the laptop dock to function since the laptop section has no processing power on its own. The downside to that laptop dock is that the functionality of it wasn’t all we hoped for.
