HTC bought Google patents for indefatigable Apple fight

HTC has confirmed that it bought the Google patents it is using in its latest legal blast against Apple, describing the litigation as "an obligation" to its business, partners and customers. The company refused to tell AllThingsD exactly how much it had spent on the patents - and Google would only confirm that they had been transferred over the past two week period - but, in a statement given to SlashGear, HTC argued that it would keep returning to the courts until Apple's infringement stopped.

The ongoing battle has had many twists and turns, involving multiple ITC complaints back and forth, but this one is specifically about the S3 patents owned by HTC that Apple could be violating. The ITC has found that Apple's Mac OS X platform does infringe on the patents, but that its iOS mobile platform does not.

HTC bypasses Apple patent ire for 2012 Android range

HTC has reportedly developed workaround technologies for those systems the ITC deemed infringed on Apple's patents, and will shift its 2012 smartphone range to the new solutions no matter the outcome of its appeal. The company has called on help from component suppliers as well as software and firmware providers, DigiTimes reports, in an attempt to limit liability - should the ITC's preliminary judgement be upheld - to the last generation of handsets developed in 2011.

ITC Staff Backs HTC, Nokia in Apple Patent Case

The U.S. International Trade Commission recommended that HTC and Nokia should not be found liable of patent infringement vs Apple Inc. Today marked the start of an ITC trial in Washington where Apple is attempting to ban imports of HTC's mobile phones into the US. They are also moving to block imports of some Nokia devices. This recommendation is not binding, but it does mark the bureaucratic position of the US government, ostensibly the will of the people, in this matter.

ITC Moves Forward in Investigating HTC’s Patent Claims Against Apple

In the tough world that is the mobile industry, suing companies is something that many might consider normal. It happens often enough.
