HP 2133 Mini-Note XP versions announced, but with a catch

As expected, HP have today released their new wave of 2133 Mini-Note ultraportables running Windows XP rather than Vista or SUSE Linux. However, while the leaked pricing may have been correct, what the tips didn't tell us was that HP would be pushing the Vista-downgrade route to XP rather than supplying XP alone. Microsoft allow users of certain versions of Vista to "downgrade", free, their OS to XP. In fact, the option to do so was already available on the 2133 KX870AT, which runs Vista Business.

HP 2133 ultraportable notebook reviewed: Flexible but expensive Eee rival

Multiple reviews are springing up for HP's rather tasty 2133 laptop, with GottaBeMobile, jkOnTheRun, Notebooks.com, TabletPCReview and Laptop Mag all giving their opinion (and, in most cases, a video demo as well) of the 3.2 pound, 10.0 x 6.5 x 1.1 inch ultraportable.  First impressions are generally good, with the higher resolution screen, bigger keyboard and aluminium chassis all scoring points over the 2133's obvious rival, the ASUS Eee.

HP Mini Note 2133 cracked open

If you're of a squeamish disposition, look away now.  Over at HP 2133 Guide the temptation to see what's going on under the hood of the well-considered Mini Note budget ultraportable was too strong to resist, and so Josh has taken his screwdrivers to the notebook to get down to bare silicon.  If you've been wondering how HP managed to fit anything up to a 1.6GHz CPU, 2GB of RAM and 160GB hard-drive into something measuring just 10.0 x 6.5 x 1.1-inches, you're in luck.

HP UMPC Compaq 2133 could be on the horizon

HP UMPC Compaq 2133 could be on the horizon

Alas, one of the other major PC manufacturers is getting into the UMPC space, well not really, it might just be semantics, but I’d call this and ultra-portable, not a UMPC. It’s the Compaq 2133 and its being made to compete with the Asus Eee, although hopefully it won’t have the same superbly generic hardware inside.

Google grabs HP webOS Enyo HTML5 team

Google has quietly snatched up the HP team responsible for the webOS Enyo HTML5 project, it's been revealed, with the search giant expected to use their expertise in Android, ChromeOS and other products. Initially believed to be the bulk of the team, according to The Verge, then narrowed down to roughly half a dozen by AllThingsD - including project chief Matt McNulty - the ship-jumping was not apparently done all at once, but after a series of individual hires. However, HP says its open-source webOS plans are still on track.
