If you’re an HDTV owner who creates media, whether it’s photos or videos, you might be unsure of how to display them on your set. If that’s the case, Seagate has unveiled a product that makes it super easy to share your content.

The FreeAgent|Theater was put into action exclusively on FastCompany.TV by way of a video interview between Robert Scoble and Jon Von Bronkhorst of Seagate’s Consumer Solutions. No word yet on release, but we know the device will cost you about $130. If you’d like to see the FreeAgent|Theater in action, check out the link below to watch the video.

Most devices of this class have been hobbled… (ie – the blockbuster box won’t play user-owned content.. the WDTV can’t handle ANY type of DRM) and this one has a HUGE liability in that it’s keyed for the mfr’s own drives (unlike the WDTV that allows ANY mfr’s drives or USB storage).
I wish the gov’t would realize the waste stream RIAA is causing by making all these devices are causing… and MAKE them come up with a consumer-based DRM strategy…
BTW – these type devices ARE great for playing your own HD slideshows and photos… but, you can invest that $150-200 towards a blue-ray player and make your own HD content on your PC using movie maker and a cheap burner.
