While I understand the idea of it, it’s a poor implementation. When it blocks voice calls, does it know not to block 911 calls? And what’s to prevent the user from uninstalling the program on the phone, or just removing the OBD from the port? If I was a teenager, I’d figure out what’s causing my phone not to work, find where it’s located, and unplug it. Next step would be to uninstall it from the phone. Done.

The system should be built in standard to all cars, and the software should be hard-coded into all mobile phone OS’s. Too many deaths, too many accidents/ injuries, and too much property damage is being caused by cell phones and drivers to not do something about it.

The OBDii port is a great power source but its getting more and more stuff plugged into it. I have a mileage logger in mine.

What is needed is an international standard for a set of ports that you can hook into to provide permanent power.

USB is my preferred option as just about every thing these days has a USB plug at one end or the other.

*If your RIDE is older than 1996, you MAY NOT have the port.*

OBD-II implementation began earlier than 1996, in some vehicles. It was only deemed mandatory for ALL vehicles, after 1996.
