Scientists find way to turn old LCDs into infection fighting material

The sheer amount of electronic waste that is generated globally is a big problem. Many parts can be recycled for their precious metals and raw materials and new breakthroughs in recycling electronics are be researched.

A team of scientists at the University of York have announced a cool discovery that has found a way to deal with discarded LCDs. The university's chemistry department discovered a way to turn the PVA inside discarded TVs and LCDs into a substance with anti-microbial properties.

PVA is also useful for other medical needs because it is compatible with human tissue. The university team envisions uses for the PVA from the LCDs for things like hospital cleaning products among other uses.
