Getting Hardware vendors not to F with the interface is tuff, because they see the numbers, and they want to skim off the top. Classic accountin thinking, not realizing their cannibalizing health of the Android ecosystem in doing that. Innovation needs to be at the hardware level not at the software level. But looking at both is normal, thus Apple think, that however is a cop out.  Google hopefully will stay the course into uncharted lands using Motorola as the gold standard in Android phones, thus by encouragement, lead the other manufactures in the cooperative development of a manged open source environment. It is hard to know what this will look like, but the last think we need is another Apple.
