Samsung have announced a larger sibling to the X360 ultraportable, which adds a larger display and an optical drive.  The X460 has a 14.1-inch LED-backlit WXGA (1280 x 800) gloss screen, magnesium alloy casing and anti-bacterial keyboard. Under the hood are a choice of Centrino 2 processors, together with an NVIDIA GeForce Go 9200M GS graphics card and up to 4GB of RAM.

Storage is from 120GB to 320GB courtesy of a standard hard-drive; there's no SSD option. Connectivity includes WiFi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, an HDMI port, gigabit ethernet and a 7-in-1 memory card reader. A 1.3-megapixel webcam lurks in the screen bezel.

Samsung are claiming up to 5hrs use from the included 6-cell battery, or up to 7.5hrs from the optional 9-cell battery. Weight with the former pack is 1.9kg (4.1lbs). No word on pricing, but the X460 will be available in Europe from October 2008.
