There’s still a cord that goes to the tower (or the tower connected to the tower), and you have to be within some distance of the tower. So wireless phones aren’t really wireless. It’s all a scam!

Under that ingenious thought process then technically when you get a wireless cell phone your not actually cutting the cord from a wired home phone since you have to plug the phone in to charge it.

Palm indeed got that right but it would only work with palm devices in assuming SS is using QI wireless power standard similar to Droid Charge. This would mean there will a slew of docks available in the market besides Ss. There will be vertical docks, alarm clocks with charging pads built in etc. Possibilities are endless when using a standard vs Proprietery solutions like palm..

I think I saw a charging/display desktop dock that held it vertically in the presentation announcement. I might be wrong, but don’t get too down about it. There’s options.

This is why Palm got the wireless charging correct because I can set my Pre portrait most of the time but can do landscape if streaming video.

Also, why oh why have they designed this cordless charging station in such a way that the phone sits in a horizontal/landscape fashion? Every desk stand that I’ve ever seen holds the phone vertically/in portrait, and for a good reason.

No cords are being cut here. You still need a cord up to your desk. The only difference being you don’t have to physically plug it into the phone.

That sounds like a design flaw rather than a case for inductive charging/against contact charging.

With separate capacitive buttons independent from the screen (i.e. not soft-buttons) you can reset the device via button combinations, just like on most tablets, and other phones with no removable battery.

If you’re going to flash your phone, don’t go with HTC. To flash a ROM, you may need to account for the possibility you’ll have to do a hard reset, which requires taking out and reinserting your battery.

I’d compare the two side by side when the S3 hits America. Go to a Verizon store some months from now and ask to see both of them. Compare viewing angles and colors. Keep in mind you might have to reconfigure the color configuration for the S3.

HTC makes nice phones. All these other features I’m reading about leave me biased toward Samsung. If it’s shown the Sammy camera is better by leaps and bounds, I’d get the Sammy.

I agree with you, but consider that the Galaxy Nexus, which has exposed pins for this very reason, will still only charge at USB (500mA) rates if you use them.

If you have to set it on a specific pad to get it to wirelessly charge, why not just have exposed contacts on the back for dock charging and charge at full speed? This “wireless if you put it exactly on this 4″ square holds no appeal to me over a real dock. The only way wireless charging will be appealing is if it became a standard, since docks are model specific.

Love the wireless charging concept even though it’s not really anything “new.” The voice command feature seems like it’ll be a nice selling feature as long as it’s reliable.

The one gripe on the back of my mind is the dang display. Dang it, Sammy. Why didn’t you just go with an SAMOLD+ HD display?
