An SD card is not like a 3.5 disk. You just buy a big SD card and leave it in. You don't take it out or swap it round and lose it. It's not like a USB stick; you don't slot it in whenever you need it. It's just basically an expansion slot for more memory. I can see how you think it's pointless so let me explain:

1) I can expand the phone as I need more memory. I've always found about 6gb is enough on a phone, but recently I started putting AVIs on it as the S2 is so good for video. So I bought a 16gb SD and my phone went from about 12gb useable to 28gb. With the iPhone you have to decide at point of purchase; £100 is a LOT of cash for 16gb extra when a decent 16gb SD costs £20, I'd rather have the choice later to be honest. With the iPhone I'd end up buying the 32gb or 64gb in case I needed the space and may waste a load of money. £700 for the 64gb? That's insane money. Whatever your views; it ain't THAT good!!!

2) It is mainly about the drag and drop. Where there's SD, there's drag and drop. Using proprietary SW to sync is OLD news and is cumbersome and awkward for anybody with a big music collection.

3) You can fill an SD card up right to the brim and not worry. I don't know what the latest ones are like but when I filled my iPhone 3GS memory up to the brim it slowed the phone down loads and I kept getting messages telling me it was too full. So you have to leave some breathing room. Don't have to with an SD card.

'It has a better camera than what you can find in most Android high-end phones out there'

iPhone does not have a better camera than the S2. Very similar main camera and iPhone has much worse (VGA vs 2mp) secondary camera. Most Android phones are worse, yeah, but the iPhone is 5 times as expensive as a lot of Android phones. There's some very cheap, crap Android phones out there but that's not what we're talking about.

'As for price, comparable phones cost just as much.'

You're talking about the 64gb iPhone...that's £700. No Android phone costs that. OK, its got 20gb more storage than a Galaxy S2 and 32gb SD card but the S2 has it beat on other specs so they are comparable.

'it has not the brightest but definitely the sharpest screen you can find on any smartphone'

Resolution is great yeah but it's only so good because it's got a little screen.

'beautifully designed hardware of the 4'

Not that well designed. If you hold it wrong the reception cuts out.

Like I said it all depends on what you want personally. I dont want an SD slot in my phone, I wouldnt use it. Just like I wouldnt want a 3.5 diskette reader on my computer. Hard media is doomed, itll take some time to get there but I seriously love the fact that I dont have to think about where I left my SD card. Im 25, I was just as used to having all these disks, and memory sticks and whatever else around me but I think right now where I currently live in this moment in time theres very little need to it and that is actually a good thing.

As for the iPhone 4S being inferior I wouldnt go that far. The 4S has better graphics power which is what enables your phone UI to produce a smooth seeming-less experience. It has a better camera than what you can find in most Android high-end phones out there. It has noise cancellation reduction built in in the processor to interact with voice recognition software such as Siri and it has not the brightest but definitely the sharpest screen you can find on any smartphone. Add to this the so carefully and beautifully designed hardware of the 4 and you got yourself one of the best smartphones there is. Also there is no Android smartphone out there that will give you built-in 64GB storage. As for price, comparable phones cost just as much.

If you like removable storage and removable battery, then stick to Android, it wont happen with Apple. But dont exaggerate the facts to feel better about your Android purchase. To each its own.

It's only really complicated if you're very poor at comprehending modern technology. If you need a device that a 4 year old can handle, then fine, but with more functionality comes more options and a more complex operating system. My doorbell is easier to use than my desktop it doesn't mean it's better.

Apple have set the iPhone up to be idiot proof, which is great if you're an idiot. If Android's too hard for you to understand, stay away. If you're fairly intelligent, are interested in technology and don't have much trouble getting to grips with gadgets Android is in many ways easier to use than iOS.

Can you turn your bluetooth and wifi on and off from the homescreen? Can you drag in a new mp3 over wifi without having to 'sync' (come on, that was what the old rubbish mp3 players did; made you use horrible proprietary software to load tracks on...I thought we'd gone past that!)?

As for 4 hour battery life; I'm a moderate user and mine lasts me two days, sometimes not quite that. My old iPhone 3GS lasted about the same. But who cares because I've always got a spare battery in my pocket. When the iPhone got low I had to stop using it to save it for calls but with the S2 I can just use it right to the bottom and not worry because if it runs out I can swap out the battery. Genius.

The drag and drop thing's a weird one. It's an OKish system to sync with iTunes so long as you have about 10gb of music. I have a massive 200gb music collection and almost a TB of video. If I have it all permanently loaded into iTunes it will be horrible. It's already slow on Windows but with such a big library it will be horrendous. Anyway, is there even an option to mark certain bits of your iTunes library to sync with the iPhone? Even if there is, my stuff's all on NAS drives which aren't always on. Basically, everytime I wanted to add a track to my iPhone I had to load everything into iTunes that I had on my phone then perform the sync. Pain in the arse. I got around it by keeping a copy of the music on my phone on my computer at all times loaded into the iTunes library but that's just really irritating and inconvenient for me.

I'm sure the aesthetic benefits of having a smooth outer shell don't really outweigh the benefits of having a micro SD card and swappable battery. The S2 does feel a bit light and plasticky next to the iPhone but the screen size and thinness make up for that...also I think HTC have managed to make a metal cased phone that feels every bit as good as the iPhone and has a removeable battery, normal sized SIM and SD slot. Surely that's really the challenge...making a desirable handset that doesn't compromise on functionality?I do like Apple stuff and I'm thinking of buying an iPad because it seems pretty good value and all the things I would need from a phone that the iPhone hasn't got I don't really need on a tablet, but the iPhone really is SO expensive for what it is. Even the 4S is an inferior phone, full stop, to my S2. It's worse in almost every way apart from this much lauded 'ease of use' thing. Which a lot of the time just makes it a pain in the arse for me. The iPhone, as you say, is great if you don't mind being locked into Apple everything. But I find 18 months is long enough to wait between phones; I don't want to choose my phone for the next 10 years which is what's basically happening when you go all out for Apple stuff.

I know so many people with iPhones who say things like 'yeah, it's OK, I'd get something else to be honest but it would be so much hassle buying all the apps again and getting out of iTunes'. I don't know anybody who's had an S2 then bought an iPhone and liked it. Apple need to be careful because their whole business model of only offering ONE phone to choose from (4 and 4S doesn't count) is fine if that phone is the best, but the iPhone isn't.

You are never going to have everything you want on a phone. It all depends on what your priorities are or what you consider to be more important to you. Even the Nexus doesnt have removable storage and its limited to 32GB of memory when you can get an iPhone 4S with up to 64GB of internal storage.

I understand the drag and drop thing, but personally i buy all my music so I never felt like I needed this option so much. When it comes to videos and stuff I can stream pretty much anything life from Netflix or TV network apps. Im kinda getting to that point where I see no point on connecting my phone to the computer, it makes less and less sense every day that passes by just like the fact that I cant remember the last time I used a CD.

On Android you will find things you love and things you hate. To me Android is kinda like having windows on a phone. I use Windows every day but I dont personally like it.

I don't think this advert is trying to say Android is cool; just that you should buy a phone for what it is not what the image of what it is. Android can actually be pretty simple. Not quite as simple as Apple though...the iPhone is definitely the right phone for those who struggle to get to grips with technology. For the more technically minded, Android offers a more complete experience.

For a tablet, I like Apple as I don't need it to do everything; but I've got used to my phone being able to do all this stuff now I could never go back to a phone like an iPhone which in some areas is quite limited.

To be honest if they sorted out the itunes sync and let me drag and drop, or gave me a dedicated audio book player that remembered the track positions of audio books even if I changed books halfway through, or put a micro SD slot in (obviously only if they allowed drag and drop as well), or gave me turn by turn GPS, or put a removable battery in, or let me turn the wifi and bluetooth off and on from the homescreen...I think I could be tempted back as there's lots of advantages with having Apple. I could live without a couple of these things but not without none of them.

For a tablet, I like Apple as I don’t need it to do everything; but I’ve got used to my phone being able to do all this stuff now I could never go back to a phone like an iPhone which in some areas is quite limited.

To be honest if they sorted out the itunes sync and let me drag and drop, or gave me a dedicated audio book player that remembered the track positions of audio books even if I changed books halfway through, or put a micro SD slot in (obviously only if they allowed drag and drop as well), or gave me turn by turn GPS, or put a removable battery in, or let me turn the wifi and bluetooth off and on from the homescreen…I think I could be tempted back as there’s lots of advantages with having Apple. I could live without a couple of these things but not without none of them.

iPhone battery is better than S2 battery yes; I've had both. But thats not really a 'spec' that people are talking about. The specs refer to the chip speed, RAM etc. It's a credit to Apple that they can get such a smooth device with such low RAM and chip speed compared to others but when people complain that Apple won't let them multitask...it's because you bought a phone that's not powerful enough to do it. The battery on iPhone's are good compared to the Galaxy S2 but I find the S2 far better for the simple reason that I can carry a spare in my wallet so I never have to worry about running it down. FWIW, Apple cook the battery life as well. I had a Macbook Air recently and it claimed 5 hours of battery life...it was typically asking for more juice at 3. It would have probably gone on to 3.5 but 4 would have been really pushing it. 5? Not a chance. Oh, put flash on it and it overheats and struggles to get 2 hours. I had to sell it.

@01e09ad69634a6a96478dfc445ce6bdb:disqus But the replaceable battery option:
1. Doesn't look nearly as tacky as a mophie hanging off (as the replaceable battery is inside the phone)
2. Still holds 8+ hours continuous video charge
3. Can be found for less than a mophie.

GAME. SET. MATCH. WINNER=Samsung Galaxy S II

@IWASBS
If you spent $80 then you could get the 4000mah Mophie battery that charges via USB. Or $34 for a 700mah battery that fits on your key chain. Or you can get a mophie battery case that protects your iPhone and doubles your doubles your battery life. There are plenty of iPhone options to extend battery life. No need for a replaceable battery.

I dont understand why everyone gets so upset and mad and starts trash talking the other phone. I like this one you like that one. big whoop. i'm not wearing pants, you probably are, big whoop. Besides everyone should be happy that there is competition. If it wasnt for android and samsung then apple would have no reason to progress, if android and samsung didnt have apple they would be hungry, wait no, they would have no reason to progress.

Well it is obvious that Samsung started this just prior to
the holiday shopping frenzy, iPhone has overall consideration rate within
consumers and is gaining market share within the business enterprise. In our
company alone they replaced every single highly expensive business telephone
with a iPhone docked into a ifusion smart station running Cisco mobile app. I now
have one devise for all my personal and business communications needs. They
told us all the power saving alone in one year from the old desk phone paid for
the entire project. Nobody at this point can come close to this however please
try for us consumers really enjoy all the new and innovated products developed
from the spirit of competition.

Complicated? From what I understand Apple wants Samsung to change the interface because its to much like IOS. Seeing I have the same device and two iPads and a iTouch I can tell you its no more complicated than figuring out how to use an iDevice......... Its just the stigma of learning something different than what your used to.

All of this Droids are better IOS is better is a bunch of crap honestly. I can nit pick the hell out of both devices all day and in the end I'd either get called a whiner or a fanboy either way.

Every 4 hours? What are you reading? I take mine off the charger at 6AM and put it back on the charger at 10PM and I have at least 40-50% battery left.

Rofl, "fancy" says it all right there. Just kidding :P. I completely understand why people like both. I'm in the tech industry and half the people I know use iPhones, and the other half use Android, both for different reasons, but I do think hardware wise, Apple is just shooting itself in the foot. Obviously there is a pretty reasonable market for larger phones at the moment, and I'm sure now that Jobbs is gone, you will see a larger screen iPhone 5 in the future. Ofcourse then it will reverse and everyone will want smaller phones, and soon they will be the size of a quarter that you stick behind your ear, and people will just use some tablet/laptop as their form of content gathering again.

So, your argument against a spare battery (1950 mAh, ~$6) is an external device that more than doubles the size and increases the weight ~50% (5.07 in x 2.51 in x 0.68 in; 2.5 oz ) and costs $80?
charging every 4 hours, yeah the iPhone 4S battery issues must be really annoying. at least you're about to get a 3rd version of iOS 5 in a couple of days. maybe, just maybe it will be fixed this time.

after apple works out the battery issue, they might address the muted calls, the echos and that damn insert SIM error message on the the 4S.

Anyways, keep it real and use the phone you love (as is with everything). Cool ad though.

There is no difference. You buy a replaceable battery for your phone and I'll buy a mophie juice pack for my iPhone. The replaceable battery argument isn't relevant any more. There are products made just for apple to extend battery life.

According to gsmarena, the iP4S gets 9h24m of continuous video
playback v 8h00m for the SGSII. The difference is that if you are on a

Can u show one android smartphone that out sell iPhone 3gs in sales. Let's not even talk about iPhone 4 or 4s

Come on guys which phone in 600$ plus category has out sold iPhone ever. And still make profit

Samsung is dreaming. They even tried to offer free galaxy s2 in Australia on the day of 4s launch but failed miserably to generate a similar hype.
