You're just regurgitating the same old myths about Apple that are easily disproven in half an hour spent actually USING Apple products. Look at iTunes: We're what, five years into iOS devices, and Apple still forces its customers to use a JUKEBOX application to manage all the applications and data on their handheld Unix computers. They've clumsily shoehorned all of the syncing functionality into tabs in a music program. And it still doesn't work right. See what happens when you "sync" photos between your iPhone and your computer.

And take a look at Finder. This, the central means of finding content on your computer, doesn't exhibit the organizational knowledge that is taught to junior-high-school students. In other words, how to sort things hierarchically. You put FOLDERS AT THE TOP of lists of items. Every other browser on the planet gets this.

And hey, when you search for something on your Mac, Spotlight will show you everything that matches the search terms... but it doesn't show you WHERE those items are. It just shows you a big list of (often identically named) hits, which could be anywhere on your computer. Even if you know that what you're looking for isn't on a particular drive, that won't help you skim through the list of search results. You'll have to click on every single hit, one at a time, and examine its properties to see where it is. Yes, that's elegant.

Windows 95? What's the problem? The vague Microsoft bashing is played out. From the mid '90s on, you know what happened when you plugged a new printer into a Windows machine? It detected it and prompted you for the appropriate drivers. You know what happened when you plugged a new printer into a Mac, until about two years ago? NOTHING. It didn't detect it, didn't ask what you wanted to do, nothing. You just had a non-functioning peripheral plugged in.

Now Microsoft has, after advancing GUIs more than anyone else through the '90s, woefully lost its way as well. We'll see if it can mount a comeback. And Apple has advanced touch UIs more than anyone else ever has. But it has neglected its computer OS for many years, and unfortunately there's little hope of that being addressed now that Apple has no interest in real computers.

I'm perplexed about something else, though. Your math:
"I have purchased four automobiles over the years. First a 1960 Ford Mustang, a 1985 Toyota 4Runner, a 1990 Landcruiser, a 1996 Chevy Tahoe, a 2006 Chevy 2500HD crew cab and a 2006 Mercedes C55."

Maybe I'm using the metric system, but I count six there.

Except that Apple denies developers access to the pressure data that could be used to make styli useful.

What a surprise.

Looks like someone's denying you access to a Shift key. Get a big-boy keyboard next time, and you can make big-boy letters!

I don’t think you understand the purpose of Samsung’s advertising campaign. Samsung is trying to change public opinion of Apple from cool to ordinary. Apple dose not sell on price or specs, nor should samsung. People buy things that fill in an imagined view of the person they think they are or want to be. Apple has understood this for some time, which is why they never talk about specs in their adds. Instead Apple talks about how their product is going to enrich your life. This strategy has worked well for Apple; it is why they can sell comotity products at premium prices. Samsung’s advertising campaign is turning Apple’s marketing strategy on its head and using it to counter Apple strong brand imag –it is a brilant idea.
But Jobs wasn't at Apple when it was going down the toilet... He left Apple just after the Mac was launched somewhere around 1985. Jobs didn’t return until 1996-97 when Apple bought Jobs' company NeXT. Little did Apple know that Jobs was planning a coup that would supplant himself as CEO along with his cronies as the new board of directors.

With help from Microsoft, Jobs was finally able to get the company back on track. Jobs eventually scrapped the original Mac OS in favor of a modified version of NeXT with an updated UI and new eye candy which became OS X. Soon after, the ipod was released, and the rest is history…

Apple has always been closed and tightly controlled - when Jobs returned he made it even moreso. Does the term 'walled garden' ring a bell?

The reason Apple almost went bankrupt had more to do with poor management than anything esle. Well that and a lack of innovation...

i'd like to provide some background information on the stylus
they not the old type of hard plastic tip stylus which didn't work at all
these are the new type soft-felt stylus designed specifically for the newest generation of
capacitative screens that most ios and android devices feature.
ipads have screens that are made to perfection; iphones and ipod touch screens are too small for the average size finger to move through with pinpoint accuracy; on the android side many screens are prone to electrostatic interferances.
soft-felt styli provides a huge boost to android and ios devices, it's easy fast and accurate. this is the closest thing next to my 2 thousand dollar wacom 21 inch touchscreen lcd, soft-felt styli are as sensitive as a blackboard marker, they glide and navigate better than the best of computer mouse, and gives a huge advantage over using finger tips, and it isn't exclusive to the new galaxy note.
when you swipe your finger and move across pages on these devices there's often a jerky sluggishness that you'll experience for a split second, it's there on the iphones ipads androids everyone of them, the companies that make them don't like to talk about it; but the use of a stylus alleviate this problem.

Samsung and Android, really? Let me help you understand. I have purchased four automobiles over the years. First a 1960 Ford Mustang, a 1985 Toyota 4Runner, a 1990 Landcruiser, a 1996 Chevy Tahoe, a 2006 Chevy 2500HD crew cab and a 2006 Mercedes C55. The ergonomics between the Merc and the American cars was stunning....I was so amazed that I went back and sat in a 1963 Merc just to see if they were thinking about hand and eye coordination and synergy in auto design....yes, they were. Digressions are beautiful!! Apple's software and hardware synergy are so complete and simple that you don't realize what you are getting until you attempt to use an Android device. The placement of controls, the synergy between apps, the conisistency across apps and the hardware splintering (only a few named here) creates an environment similar to Windows 95 and the MSFT model of hurry up and get to market with half baked kind of working busted out the box pain. Don't let me talk about the whole virus malware aspect of Android. Really? Android? Think about you you are repeating 1995 all over again. Here is one for you, in 1980 the CLOUD existed on mainframes and SNA networks

I think Samsung missed a golden opportunity to show what the Note can DO. Big deal, it has a stylus. My circa 1995 Compaq iPaq had a stylus. But what can you DO with the stylus and the big screen? Geez, Apple's retread iPhone 4S has GREAT commercials hilighting Siri and how it makes your life easier, better and more fun. The Note is great because the handwriting recognition is nicely integrated into Google Maps, the Notepad and other things. But that message did NOT come through.

Samsung basically says, "Get this phone and its stylus and miraculously you'll be dancing in the streets for no apparent reason other than the fact that IT HAS A FRICKIN' STYLUS".

Lame.

Samsung aimed this commercial at customers already firmly in the Android camp. Even my daughter was unimpressed with the supposed shots at Apple. Stylus? iPhone users would revolt if you added a stylus to their phones and have you ever seen actual video of the lines outside Apple stores waiting for the new iPhone? They're invariably a happy bunch of campers; not the downtrodden, morose buch depicted in the Samsung ad. All in good fun, though! Samsung just shouldn't expect the ad to create many converts, though.
