Samsung Spinpoint F4 320GB HDD launches

Samsung has announced a new HDD in the Spinpoint series called the F4 (not pictured). The new drive is for high-performance computing and has a 3.5-inch design aimed at desktops and servers. The drive spins at 7200 rpm.

The new HDD has 320GB of storage capacity and uses a one head platform for fewer mechanical parts giving the drive a more robust design. Samsung claims the new HDD has 10% better read/write performance and 7% lower power consumption than the Spinpoint F1.

The drive also uses no halogen compounds or BFRs in its construction allowing it to meet RoHS specifications. The interface used in the drive is SATA 3 Gbps and it has exclusive dynamic balancing technology inside to enhance stability and reliability. The memory buffer is 8MB or 16MB depending on the model. Samsung offers no pricing and the drive is available to key OEM partners now.
