Samsung's pentile displays are best in its class of pentile displays. That's because Samsung's display technology is better than anyone else's display technology for any class.
The way the pixels are arranged, you It's natively occurring. The green subpixels on the left don't have other pixels to support it so there is a distinct green line.

If it doesn't bother you, that's awesome. For me it's a deal breaker.

Go look at an old Nexus one, or a Nexus S... ugh... Pentile was obvious and ugly there. Compare it with a LCD though.

The Note display isn't horrible, but some of us can tell the difference.

Especially my fiance... being a graphics designer and using calibrated displays... she is real picky.

I have held a Galaxy Nexus next to another 720p phone with a standard LCD... I could tell the difference... I could tell the difference even before holding the two together. Pentile in the Galaxy Nexus is more subtle than the Nexus One pentile screen was due to higher resolution, but I can still tell.

To get pentile to a point where you can not tell the difference you would need to put 720p into a screen size of about 4 inches or so. (rough guess)

Now that is just the resolution differences... AMOLED screens also have a weakness with white on any brightness setting but 100% other colors have issues too. Changing the brightness has a noticeable effect on the color temperature of the screen.

And that is with RGB AMOLED screens, pentile screens have an even tougher time with that problem.

Don't forget the color banding issues of pentile.

I believe a big reason they use the pentile on the new 720p screens is due to production reasons. The smaller the subpixels get, the more chance of having defects. If you have too many rejected displays at the display manufacturing plant due to testing showing bad pixels, that causes costs to rise. Pentile can use larger subpixels and is therefor easier to produce. The larger screens they are putting out now helps with display production as well... its easier (which makes it cheaper) to make a 4.75 inch 720p screen than it is a 4 inch 720p screen)

The Rezound had this problem... the dense pixels had a high rate of dead/stuck pixels when they fell into hands of consumers. (I believe the problem is resolved now though)

I myself had a display with a stuck pixel on my original Rezound, and even with DPI better than the iPhone 4s, I could still see it, and once you see a stuck pixel... you can not un-see it.

Your comparison to a camera doesn't make sense in this respect. Clarity does not equal vibrance. And I don't understand whet you mean about how ppi isn't everything, but then you back that up with the fact that the Note has more pixels. It has more pixels, but over a proportionately larger area, meaning the pixels are larger, which with Pentile means more space around the sub-pixels meaning less clear. Pentile might be fine for some, but given the choice, it would be the last type if screen I would choose. I would rather have more realistic, non-pixelated-like colors. Maybe it's my eyesight, I don't know lol I just can't stand looking at Pentile displays

Ppi isn't everything. Its like saying the clarity of a picture is dependent on how high the MP of the camera that took it is. And you compared a nexus, not a note. The Note has an extra 80 pixels added to the width. Hence the 1280x800 Res. The iPhone 4/4S doesn't hold a candle to my display. I have yet to see another phone with a clearer display and I've look at the rezound. As for the "pixelated" pictures that you speak of, I haven't seen any.
The note has a much lower ppi than others out there, not really sure how you can see a lower ppi Pentile screen be more clear than a 330+ ppi SLCD or IPS display, that doesn't make any kind of sense. I've compared the Galaxy Nexus to the Rezound, and the Rezound wins, hands down in terms of clarity. The Nexus has more vibrant colors, but I can't stand to see "pixelated-ish" images on a 720p screen, that just irks me

The Note's screen is absolutely gorgeous.

Pentile gets a bad rap because companies like Motorola screwed up its reputation by using poor quality pentile displays.

Samsung manufactures better quality pentile displays, so you can see the drastic improvement in quality. At these resolutions and densities now, pentile's problems are no longer an issue.

Sorry, but I've never liked a pentile display in any form. I'm very unimpressed with the GNex screen and the Note screen, especially when dealing with white (you always end up with a gray instead of a white).

Sorry, but I’ve never liked a pentile display in any form. I’m very unimpressed with the GNex screen and the Note screen, especially when dealing with white (you always end up with a gray instead of a white). Also I can’t stand having a green line going down the entire left side of my phone on all white screens.

You clearly missed the point. By having half as many blue pixels its less noticeable when they burn out than having a ton of blue pixels burn out and then having to deal with terrible resolution. My Note screen is crazy clear. No other display I've seen even compares.

some of the fuss seems like the Mega Pixel fights on the cameras. Sure, sometimes there's a difference, but after a certain point, a viable shot is a viable shot, and just ramping up the megapixels doesn't do a lot for you without improvements in other areas.

Well, I'm certainly not a videophile... but the only pentile screen I have (galaxy note) stands up extremely well against 2 friends with Iphones. Both are drooling over the note and regretting being locked into their contract. The higher pixel density on their phones isn't enough of a difference to make them the preferred device when there's other elements to the phones, such as size, OS, flexibility, etc. Pretty anecdotal I know... but that doesn't make it untrue.

So if blue burns out quicker, I have two questions. 1) why would it matter how many there are? They burn out the same time, so at one point they both have 100% of them lit, then 3 years down the road they both have 50% lit. That doesn't make sense. And secondly, if blue does burn faster, wouldn't you want MORE so that when the first few start going out you have a lot of others? That doesn't make any sense.

And also, Pentile sucks.

Seriously, put a Galaxy Nexus (or a Galaxy S III when it's available, I guess) and put it next to a One X.
They BOTH have great displays and if you take issue with one of those screens the problem is with you, not with the tech.
