USB is just the most convenient such on phones. Still, i do like the idea of extending this to full size USB so that the ports on a laptop or desktop could double as video out.

They got it backwards. They should mimic MHL on full-sized USB ports so we can use the charging cable to connect to the monitor and get rid of everything else entirely.
