Samsung GT-P1010 WiFi-only Galaxy Tab clears FCC

The WiFi-only version of Samsung's Galaxy Tab has shown up in the FCC's testing database, complete with the model number GT-P1010.  The Froyo slate differs from its GT-P1000 sibling by omitting the 3G chipset and instead relying on WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 for its connectivity; otherwise it has the same 7-inch 1024 x 600 capacitive touchscreen, the 3-megapixel rear camera and front-facing 1.3-megapixel webcam.

Still unknown is the release date for the GT-P1010.  Samsung has filed a 180 day confidentiality request – the longest the FCC allows – from the October 7 filing date, but Best Buy sales information previously spotted implies the WiFi-only Tab will go on sale alongside, rather than following on from, the 3G-enabled version.

Pricing will likely be the biggest point of contention for this new Galaxy Tab SKU, with the original P1000 criticized for its relatively high cost (even with a carrier subsidy).  The Best Buy flyer led some to suggest a $499.99 figure, which is unlikely to meet with an especially positive reception.
