Samsung Galaxy TabPro S hands-on: the all-purpose "mobile station"

Today we're having a peek at the Samsung Galaxy TabPro S, a Windows 10 tablet that may be a good contender for Microsoft Surface. Back when we saw the Samsung ATIV Tab 3 in 2013, it was beginning to be clear: the "Galaxy" look was expanding beyond the borders of Android. Now here in 2016, the Samsung Galaxy TabPro S keeps the name and comes with Windows 10 in a tablet that's made to do basically anything.

This machine comes with either Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro, indicating it'll be aiming to do a lot more than your average mobile tablet. Samsung's specifications for this device also include both Wi-Fi and LTE iterations, suggesting they may be releasing this machine with carriers here in the united states, as they have machines like this in the past.

Samsung calls this a 2-in-1 – you'll be able to use that tablet separate from its base if you do so choose. The base is a simple keyboard, nearly flat, connecting with pogo-pins at the base of one of the long sides of the tablet.

The display is 12-inches diagonally and 2160 x 1440 pixels dense, made with Super AMOLED technology. That means it's very, very bright when you want it to be, and the colors are extremely vivid.

You'll notice design cues from the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5 along the sides of this tablet. Metal along the back and sides with strips for antenna, and a grille of holes for speakers.

Unfortunately Samsung has not continued their trend of front-facing speakers on this device, pointing them out and to the side of the tablet instead.

Samsung calls this a mobile station, and suggests that it's made for all manner of different sorts of activities – we'll have to see about that. I don't see any S-Pen here – they've got one for sale separately, but it's no S-Pen.

Otherwise this is indeed a fine tablet to behold.

You'll be able to purchase a "multi-port adapter" for this tablet from Samsung with HDMI, USB Type A & C ports. And again, you'll also be able to purchase a Samsung Bluetooth Pen – sold separately, all likely available at the same time as the tablet itself, this February 2016.

Pricing has not yet been made available for this device – stick around as we see additional details in the near future.
