None of these gadgets is essential for work or everyday life. So what you can do is simply not buy the wretched thing, until the price is right.

I am like that Samsung aimed high and did not compromise quality or features for lower price -- it clearly shows that Apple has no monopoly over the high end devices. Having said that, I will be waiting for a non-3G version with a substantially reduced price.

€799? Really? This thing would have to fellate me to be better value than an iPad. Is this the best they can do? This is probably a prime example of what carried subsidization does to the unsubsidized prices of gadgets, and why such practices should be stopped abruptly, or seriously investigated for corruption. Forcing people into contracts with unrealistically high direct prices has got to be against some sort of law or regulation, if not simply morally objectionable. That said, the iPhone is plagued by the same price hike, and I bought one of those... still, we're kind of used to this sort of thing with phones by now... Ultimately, I don't want this practice gaining any more traction in the computing market than it already has.
