Worthy of consideration if you want to learn how to tinker and modify android, not if you are looking for a proper tablet. Sorry, but even the outgoing generation of Android phones have better specs and support better software. Don’t get me wrong, as a book and magazine reader it is great (though the Nook still does the Job better). As a streaming media consumption device, it is just OK, but it does have access to amazon’s media content. In fact Amazon’s lending library is about the only thing this device has going for it, and if you buy it with a prime account ($279 all in) it really isn’t a very good deal if you want to use it for anything other than as Amazon intended.

Perhaps not crap, but it is definitely a craplet.

Excuse me, but the Fire is at the very least worthy of consideration based on HW specs and rootability alone. Dismissing it as “crap” is a little stupid.

I bought one in Hong Kong a month or so ago. I had the original 10.1″ Galaxy Tab, and good as it is, this one is just that little more comfortable to hold without getting heavy.
Living in South Africa our internet is so slow that it does not really matter what processor you have, the tablet is always waiting for data.

Handsome device, but with quad core tegra 3′s taking over the high end, and B&N’s nook scoping out the intro level (the fire is a craplet so I’m not counting it), the argument for price on this is going to be very tight. Any more than $300 retail, and it is going to compete with an ocean of full sized tablets already running similar specs. If they can price it similarly to the Nook, however, a whole lot of people are going to line up for them.
