Indeed ICS may leave you wanting more or unsatisfied, but I have found friends and relatives who have come from iOS tend to put up a mental block, when it comes to anything different and most times refuse to adapt, one friend for example couldn't understand that one did not need to plug his Android phone into a computer to sync everything and lorded this feature of iOS
I have, since android 1.5, welcomed each change in OS and I am so impressed with ICS, I personally feel no need for manufacturers UI's any longer as these seem to detract from Android 4.0 but would to a degree not be too comfortable with iOS either as I am used to the Android.

But as you said Ice Cream Sandwich would leave YOU wanting

This was a refreshing review with as many questions being answered, for me personally, as I would have needed. Thanks for Samsung bringing to the market, a budget tablet that is as fully featured as one could come to expect from Samsung with only minor concessions to quality being made to attain the desired price point.

It was also welcoming that this tablet hasn't constantly been compared to the Kindle Fire as reviews elsewhere tend to do. This I applaud because for the majority of tablet users worldwide, the Kindle Fire is not even an option.

At the end of the day we have here an ICS Tablet with expandable storage, dual core processor, touch screen with HD, 1 Gb RAM and the entry into the Samsung eco system with Media and cloud storage to boot.

Ticking all the right boxes for me (just holding out for a possible Google Nexus tablet for comparison or even Asus's offerings)

Picked one of these up yesterday to replace my Nook Color as I prefer the 7" form factor but wanted something speedier and more robust. So far, so good. MUCH more crisp experience akin to our iPad and I think the UI enhancements Samsung's made on top of stock ICS are actually quite nice. The device itself is very vanilla-looking but who uses a tablet without a case of some sort anyway? For $250 this is a fantastic device IMO.

how does this compare to the Chinese offerings like the U17GT 7" tablet that is not being released in the west. I just ordered 2 of them and then heard about this one. The additional features on the Cube U17G5 7 seem to be just a cut above. But I haven't received them yet for comparison. Will those devices ever make it to the US?

Chris, Can you comment on how it works with a Samsung Smart TV. Would it make a good remote control with Keyboard? Could it be used as a smart remote/keyboard/mouse replacement for a media centre PC? Cheers Rob

I have the reverse experience. I am skeptical of the much-acclaimed "intuitiveness" of iOS.

We got the ipad2 for our in-laws. Being elderly, they have no idea how to use it. We have to set it up, install app, show them how to navigate, do things, etc... Coming from IT background (Win/Mac/Linux), yet I often caught myself befuddled at how to do certain things in ipad. I often resort to google for the answer.

On the other hand, I have always been a unix/linux person and gravitate toward android. I am used to it and find ICS a nice, sleek, modern and powerful user interface.

iOS5 UI is nice but old and stale. That's how I feel. In the end, I think it boils down to familiarity and preference.

I really want to like this, but I have to say Ice Cream Sandwich would leave me so wanting. It reminds me of how the Palm and Handspring PDA devices looked in the late 90's: Really cool-looking until you pressed them into use. I found myself wanting to again interface with a pad of paper soon after.

Contrast this to the iOS experience, which left me questioning its usefulness before the purchase, but wove its way into my life so quickly, in ways I never imagined. The interface became more and more transparent as time passed. I'm not at all a fanboy, I just need a device that enhances my life without getting in the way of it.
