The article is pretty much moot anyway with the new tablets that have come out since then. The Note 10.1 and Note 8 are pretty awesome.

I have to say this article is pretty terrible because it is conclusory....it states that the ipad is better than the tab bc I think the ipad is better than the tab. It reaches its conclusion based on very few factors and doesn't qualify its conclusion by noting YMMV. I would feel the same way about an article that said the note 10.1 is a hands-down winner over the ipad 4 (even though it is FOR ME). The things that kill the ipad IMO are no split-screen capability (it is a 9-10" screen for crying out loud); being chained to itunes and apple's app store; and it essentially being a very large ipod touch.

I just got my first Apple product a ipad 3 and really liking my Galaxy Tab 2 over it. It is just so much easier to work with. Yes the ipad seems faster and has a very pretty screen but getting my files transferred has been a royal PITA from the start. Where with my Samsung it was simple drag and drop. Going to see if I can get this figured out but leaning heavy on getting rid of it.

Are you going to keep posting this every two months? Yes the comparison was a little bogus, but in the end it comes down to how you use technology, and for what. The Nexus (and Samsung products generally) are 'better' but they aren't necessarily as nice to use.

The app store is rubbish on android (the average quality of product is poor, and the protection for developers is rubbish), the simple interactions on the iPad are smoother and more natural, who cares that you can plug in all these additional external bits.

I want the damn product to be all I need out of the box. Yes, in some ways Apple products are "FisherPrice" but you don't expect to have to upgrade your tablet or phone etc When was doing that a benefit on PCs when you have to keep buying more RAM and improving your graphics card just to play the latest game?

I'd like to see the next tablet iOS update to have a refreshed home screen not just a field of icons, but beyond that it's the Apple product every time for me.

I do love weighing in to old arguments. Anyhoo... gmaninvan can decry the iOS and how it hasn't moved on, but you conveniently forget that Apple MADE this market. Doesn't mean theirs is still the best, but i've regularly tried to find appeal in the Android OS and find it horribly clunky compared to the Apple feel.

I'm no fanboy. I couldn't give a rats about brands, and I do wish that Apple would refresh their approach to the icons.

However, Android appeals more to the kind of person that gives a damn about changing your keyboard or adding something from USB. Who wants to import hacked apps or films, who wants to get into the workings of the machine. The Apple tools do the job they are designed to do, without all the geekdom. They work.

I think the whole argument about Flash is now kind of moot, no? But its interesting how it's played out.

Reading this article, I'd have to disagree with some of the things he says. I have an iPad 2 and my girlfriend has the Samsung Galaxy 2 10.1, and I'm now starting to get jealous of her tablet. Just comparing the two, I'm thinking of trading up for the Samsung now. I notice that with the Samsung I can attach an external hard drive to it via the camera connection USB plug in, the speakers are on the front, so you don't need to cup you hand to get better sound. There are tons of new free apps like Angry Birds Star Wars, expandable memory, and flash player when surfing the Internet. I'd have to say the Samsung seems to be the better out of the two.

Tech oriented users will never get the relief of not having so much choices as android gives you. I have an S3 and an iPhone 4S and I use my iPhone far more. I think Android is a very good OS, it is free, its fast, its open, it has Flash (what is cool), it has USB OTG (even cooler), and so forth, but it really anoys me having to worry about killing apps to save battery, about managing 3 different memories (including card), about organizing my files, and about all sorts of an overwhelming big set of options that Android gives me. Its too much. I very much aware that some people will never get how you could settle for less options when you can get more, but believe me, its not hipe. I really don't want to spend so much time customizing my phone, I just love the job Apple has already done, and I'm not the only one.

Android is for everyone, not just a small niche. Gone are the days when Apple rules the smartphone market. The Apple operating system now only commands 8% of the smartphone market whereas phones running the Google Android operating system make up 75% of the market. The reason for Android's dominance is because it is free and open.

Given Android can be customised by manufacturers, there is an Android product for just about anyone. e.g. Google Nexus 7 for gamers, Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 for productivity users, and the $120 Kogan Agora Dual Core Tablet for the budget-conscious.

Although Google Android has 75% of the smartphone market, Apple still dominates in the tablet market with a 60% market share. However, that is very quickly being eroded by Android tablets.

Of course the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is not as good as the iPad 4. The iPad 4 costs twice as much. The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 should be compared to the equally priced iPad 2. In terms of hardware specs, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 has better screen resolution, processor power, and RAM. Samsung's best tablet is not a Galaxy Tab but rather the Samsung Nexus 10, which has a better-than-Retina 300 ppi screen resolution.
Chris Burns you couldn't write a review to save your life.

EVERY point in this blog is biased, soley in favour of the Eye patch.

I own both, and i can say whole heartedly that the Galaxy tab 2 10.1 is a far better, more user friendly tablet for everyday and occasional users.

so pull your head out of your ass, you muppet

And I would say he doesn't. My reason is being that Google IS the LARGEST search engine network used with an estimated 900,000,000 visitors monthly followed by Bing as second largest with a (wa-wa-wa) merely a 18.3% of Google's total at 165,000,000 monthly visitors and then Yahoo with a 160,000,000. Google is also the THIRD largest e-mail service provider with 298 million unique visitors following (somewhat surprisingly) Hotmail with about 325 million visitors and Yahoo at 298 million (yet we have to consider that Google as an e-mail provider was introduced much MUCH later than Hotmail or Yahoo), so it goes without saying that many are making transition from Hotmail or Yahoo to G-mail (including myself) so for you to agree with Mr. Reid's bias saying that only 5% are heavy Google users, you must be as dim a flickering light bulb that has reached it's limit. I'm not saying Apple doesn't have a lot of good going for it. I'm just disagreeing with your percentage and saying that Android devices are really giving Apple devices a run for its money. IMO, apple started out fantastic but it's becoming very run-of-the-mill and not being very innovative anymore (perhaps the death of Steve Jobs, may he rest in peace, had something to do with this) and I'm finding Samsung to be coming out with much more exciting things. And before you ask, yes I have both, I have an Ipad 3rd generation AND a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 and I have owned an IPhone 4S, a Galaxy S2 and a HTC Evo 4G and have stuck with the Galaxy since it does more for me, business wise.

This is ridiculous..the author is biased towards the ipad 2 because (hes probably an apple fanboy) of the accessories! what kind of assessment is that? As a tech reviewer, you should be neutral to all brands and base your review on each devices specs and capabilities and not because it has more accessories. I happen to own an iphone and a galaxy tab 7 plus. i personally prefer android tablets for the simple reason that its more functional and productive. my tablet does phone calls, sends sms, mms, does video calls, plays flash, plays HD videos, has external memory slot, can transfer any type of files via USB OTG, does bluetooth, vast apps (android has more productive apps bec its OS isnt restrictive unlike iOS- iOS prob has better games though, but not to say android doesnt have lots of decent games), plays music and videos on flashdrives via USB OTG adapter, plays any type of video format w/o conversion, better navigation, downloads torrents, less accessories, fair OS update (ICS as of now with planned JB), cheaper device.. VERSUS iPad which plays games (has a bit more quality games, but far less productive apps due to OS restrictions), plays apple format videos only, cant bluetooth files, cant transfer files, worse maps ever, needs itunes on PC to work, more expensive device, cant do calls , cant do sms or mms, better OS updates, more accessories. now based on these, which is better? for me personally, ipad is just a bigger ipod touch, like wat most practal people think, its just like a toy. Its obviously a no brainer for me, the author is correct, its a no contest for me, galaxy tab hands down.

What a joke tool for apple. God I hope apple pays you well to put your name on this crap. Anybody that will do 1 days worth of research will laugh at this, Apple is getting a butt kicking in the world market so much the only thing Apple can do is sue any chance it can (losing more than winning), technology put out from apple sucks and has not changed but once from day one. Droid is so much better with wide open apps and had 4G LTE over 8 months ahead of the Apple stone age brick toy. Android overtook iOS to become the market share leader in mobile application downloads. The market shares of Android were 44% and Apple iOS 31%. Apple is toast...pie. Total downloads by Android have passed Apple this year as the rate of growth is 16% for Droid and 6% for Apple, that is huge for the new kid on the block. Android is open for all developers that are not rejected like apple will do so they are coming over in droves to make money, Apple is take it or leave it...so they will get that wish. Apple will take a back seat AGAIN, just like the Apple computer of today.

"the app store has the games and apps I want right away" Well sir, you must have shitty standards when it comes to games - most of the games on the App Store are half-assed, crappy and of poor quality clones of other games.
