Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 official general launch date is June 16

Recently we posted that the launch date for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 was pegged as June 8. That launch date has been confirmed to be true, with one significant caveat. The June 8 launch date will be only good for a limited number of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablets at the Best Buy Union Square store in NYC. The launch date for general availability on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be about a week later on June 16.

The official pricing will be $599 for the 32GB WiFi version and $499 for the 16GB WiFi version of the tablet. You will be able to pre-order the Tab 10.1 online starting on June 8. The tablet will run Android 3.1 Honeycomb and is hailed as the thinnest tablet on the market. It is only 8.6mm thick and weighs 1.25 pounds.

The 10.1-inch screen has a resolution of 1280 x 800 and the machine uses a speedy Tegra 1GHz processor. The battery is a 7000 mAh unit good for nine hours of use per charge. "Ensuring that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 launched with Android 3.1 Honeycomb was part of our constant commitment to meeting the needs of our customers," said Dale Sohn, President and CEO of Samsung Mobile. "The Galaxy Tab 10.1's ultra-thin design and 10-inch touchscreen are impressive differentiators in the tablet market place. We're going to make the Galaxy Tab 10.1 even more powerful, entertaining and secure through a series of upgrades coming to this device."
