I agree. Some of us guys want phone that's not too big and not too small. Personally I got used to the GS size, so the iphone seems slightly too small. Also the GS is SO LIGHT that it doesn't feel like I have a small rock in my pocket!

That would be a significant downgrade. The SGSII is superior to the Galaxy Nexus in every way, except for ICS on the GN. Even the GN screen is not as bright as that of the SGSII.
I had both, returned the GN and gladly kept the SGSII.

Very nice judgement. I think that phones will get big and then small again when we get a good working virtual 3D that accepts touch. Similar to kinect but smaller, this way a phone can be used as a phone and when needed be used as a tablet. I believe right now the manufacturers are trying to find a middle ground, unfortunately a lot of users are liking the bigger screens and that trend will last for another 3 years. Even Apple will make a bigger screen if they want to sell the next Iphone.

but see thats the thing, i dont think most just use our phones for actual PHONE CALLS, texting, and an app use or two, if thats what you want then you dont need the better hardware specs, a budget phone is perfect for what you want.
What about a hardend clear coat, much like you find on paint jobs for your car not to mention the "full body" screen protectors we can buy for our phones now, they should offer reasonable protection. If the ceramic case is a replaceable backing like design and cost no more than your typical 3rd party protection case then would it really need to be all that durable? Under that scenario the ceramic part would be an accessorie and most people would own more than just one.

I'm thinking that the ceramic part is a replacable backing, one that wraps around to the screen edges. Easily replaceable if damaged and sold as an accessorie, you could have a shit load of colors/designs that way and own several at a time to change as desired. This could be part of Samsungs recent patent regarding skins for phones, apps made available so the screen can match the skin/ceramic case of your choice.

Correction. Ceramic casing is neither all ceramic, and it is must definitely NOT scratch proof. I should Know I'm a long time watch collector and have build some hand made ceramic watches.

Ceramics (as used in watches) are metal coatings that are applied to the finished metal underneath and then baked in place. They are available in a wide range of colors and are very tough, but they are still very much susceptible to scratching and flaking (especially along sharp edges of the product the coating has been applied on. These coatings were not designed for impact protection. Coatings like ceramic, teflon and a variety of PVD coatings were designed primarily with corrosion protection (for different types of environments). The most durable of all these coating types are those that are PVD applied and of those the carbon based coatings are some of the toughest (Casio's Diamond Like coating comes to mind). these coatings are not ceramic though, and they are not baked on. they are very tough, but they can still be scratched. The biggest thing to take from this is that regardless of the coating, the underlying chassis that the coating binds to is always metallic, which means that if these phone cases are in fact ceramic coated, then the case itself will be metal (a pure ceramic case is possible, but they are inherently brittle - dropping your pure ceramic phone on a hard surface may lead to the case cracking). Lastly, scratched cases cannot be practically re-coated. To do so, requires removing the entire coating and reapplying it from scratch. I can't imagine this being cost effective for most owners.

The reason these coatings work on watches is because watches are not generally dropped (they are carried on wrists), and by and large watches are relatively protected (by sleeves and the like). Most watches designed for real world professional applications (read, real world applications in an abusive environment), tend to be made of some type of plastic or uncoated metal (usually stainless steel or titanium).

I'm not sure that this is the best decision for Samsung to pursue.

I agree, 4.8" is just too big.

3.5" to 4" is perfect.

The reason the screen is that big could be technical though, you see Samsung uses AMOLED technology and if they want to make a HD screen AND have an RGB subpixels instead of pentile, 4.8" is probably the smallest they can make the screen/pixels.

The Attain that you speak of was the original name for the "FIRST" AT&T version that was later renamed to just the SGS II (version I got). Which had all the same hardware as the international version, except for the physical button and possibly the modem. Other than that it was the exact same. Now I know later AT&T came out with a different version called the Skyrocket....and then there was the other carriers that were different. But as far as being close to the original SII, the first AT&T version was the best and closest. I love mine.

you seem to not be aware of changing times. I think we're long past the point of calling these devices PHONES. It should be clear by now that these are hand held computers with the ability to make phone calls. Manufacturers still make phones under 4" and I bet they always will. We'll get to the point where the dumbest of phones, relatively, will be more than sufficient for your needs to simply make phone calls, with an app or two.

These aren't phones anymore, they are computers. Infact I would argue that they are more personal than a personal computer. These computers never leave your side. This arguement of "I dont want a phone that big" is old and boring. The cell phone has evolved but you are refusing to do the same. If you want a cell phone there are still flip phones out there, and there are many that have smaller screens. But for some reason you think manufucters shouldn't make 4.5 inch phones because they don't fit in your skinny jeans?

The samsung blaze is coming out soon with a 3.97 inch screen with a ton of bells an whistles. The next iphone will most definetly be a 4 inch screen. In the world you live in all phones are 4.8 just because one variant of a phone from a manufucter is 4.8. You are either trolling or you are unimformed
