Galaxy S4 is a good phone....but it really lacks a WOW factor...yes, the eye tracking thingy is new...but there is nothing revolutionary about the galaxy phones(except for my note2 stylus)...they make very good chips and memory....but bumping up the specs will only get you sales number...there is no uniqueness in design or software that makes Samsung stands out...heck a cheap galaxy grand looks like a S3 only until you take a good look at it....i miss the stylish bada phones with anodized aluminium body...and samsung slim(*if anyone remembers)...they could have had saved millions if they had not copied Apple's design....Nokia has pureview(5yearsR&D) ,amazing touch and style to die for, apple has its own hardware design and its very own iOS, HTC and Sony are just overshadowed by Samsung's enormous success and killer marketing but at least they have their own kickass 4MP camera and Sony's sleek designs...
I hope samsung comes up with darn good Tizen phones or else their android future looks bleak to me...

Chris Burns, I know you can't seriously be attempting to compare the iPhone 5 to the GS4 when it was not even as good as the GS3. You are pathetic man. The iPhone 5 was barely as good as the GS2. The GS4 has at least 3 times the processing power, twice the ram, expandable memory, replaceable battery, not to mention a much bigger screen (iPhone's baby screen is pathetic) etc. etc. as the iPhone 5. NOBODY will choose the iPhone over the GS4, except for people who are as stupid as you.

They obviously have and will have production and other problems with the Octa processors. It is brand new technology, specially when such technology need a revised kernel. And this brings us to my next point. We will not be getting the juicy eight core processor for two reasons:

1.- American network providers suck. They are and will hold any technological innovation until they see potential added profit. We never got the 4 core GS3.

2.- The American user base is not technologically literate nor open to it. Most people won't even know why the Exynos 5 Octa is such a great deal. The American population cares more about flashy 'user experience' or the less I need to think the better and that's why GS IV is a phone for the masses. They went ahead and made a bunch of software that appeals to this kind of market.

Regarding updates: The bad guys are the network providers. They are the ones holding releases, not OEMs. American Network providers will not release an update until they have removed features and added their adware. If they don't see any profit from an update, they will not release it.

The big question is, what is needed to put media on each:

The Samsung can use a computer with any operating system that can read USB storage devices, or any wireless network, or another phone with Bluetooth. I can even drop media on a microSD card and plug it in.

The Apple needs a machine with either Windows or OS-X and iTunes installed.

I prefer to have choices, and only being able to use iTunes is not a choice (especially if you run Linux). I used to have a Gen 2 iPod and a Gen 1 iTouch, until they "upgraded" my firmware and encrypted the music database in my iTouch. I have always disliked iTunes and had used Winamp instead, but they took that choice away from me AFTER I had bought it.

I can write any Android app I want I drop it on the Samsung's SDcard and install it. It is my business what I can and can't put on MY devices, but you're not putting anything on YOUR iPhone that wasn't approved by Apple that isn't in the Apple store.

Do you think that there is some technical challenge to Apple putting a microSD card in their stupid phone, no they're just screwing you over, they are currently in round five of said screw fest. Don't even ask about the lack of a removable battery.

Enjoy you're walled-prision, er.. I mean walled-garden. I'm picking the device that gives me choices. Hell you can even choose to charge your S4 with the built-in Qi wireless.

Taking in all the SIV related reports today, here are my thoughts. My analysis are based on honesty and this phone is not going to be my next phone. With my bad eyes and in need of something practical for heavy use a device closer to a 6" screen size is more ideal.

The biggest achievement is the increase of the screen size without increasing weight and the over all size of the phone. HTC One with 4.7" screen is heavier than SIV with 5" and so as Sony's Xperia Z which is 5" too.

The second biggest achievement which puts both HTC and Sony in design-shame is the existing of a SD-Card port and removable battery. You may find also the biggest battery among the three too. Why they couldn't do that?

Samsung showed its weakness in the CPU department and this will work against them sooner or later. The weakness is in the lack of LTE chip integration. This will double the software development cost and fragments a product that will appear different in the eyes of consumers in terms of performance and support. Of course Samsung has to share its profits with Qualcomm again.

As it appread, no one was allowed to talk about the CPU is being used during the hands on video reportings. This may indicate Samsung hasn't sorted out the previously reported issue with Octa chip yet.

One has to wonder how Samsung is going to continue supporting its massive range of devices, both tablets and phones. Unless they have already setup solid teams to see through all the current and future software developments Samsung's downfall will start when software updates are delivered late and buggy to the customers, Motorola anyone? For every software feature Samsung adds I would add few days to the release process, specially on ROM upgrades rather than updates.

apparently you are an idiot. i said "5" is way too damn big," not "the galaxy S4 is too big."

i want a smaller screen. not a smaller phone, but smaller SCREEN. HTC One's screen is 4.7". S4's is 5".

4.7 is a smaller number than 5. FYI.

i also explained in a previous post why i want a smaller screen. if it is still unclear to you, then you should work on your English comprehension skills.

Apparently you don't know what you want. In your first comment you said you want the HTC One because the S4 is "too big". In reality they are the same size, the S4 just has a better use of bezel.

Most spec junkies, such as yourself, fail to realize that I don't give a shit about anything you just said. i actually want a smaller screen. 4.3" or 4.5" would be perfect. not for any special reason. I just don't want a 5" screen. same way i don't buy a 60" screen for my bedroom because it's just not very comfortable to look at from a short distance. that's it.

is that too much to ask for?
