I have the Prevail M-820, thru Boost, though Sprint is the carrier. These are down around $120 now. The specs are probably the same. 3G, wifi, CDMA, BUT NO ADOBE FLASH, unless a different browser is used. I use MX PLAYER, works fine. Gingerbread upgrade, battery goes quick, screen is plastic-not glass. Switching between fb, text, email, gallery, is a breeze. Screen is only 3.2″, but good color. I wish it had a slide-out keyboard, swype took a few weeks to get used to.

I have this phone and just got it no too long ago!!! and I love it its just i have a few minor questions that i still cant seem to figure out on it. and i was hoping if someone could answer the question of how could i save a pic to my picture gallery that sum one sent me in a message and how do i set a ringtone(music) to my messages so that a actual song can/will play when someone sends me a messages???

Well….. I bought this phone yesterday and I have to say…..LOVE IT..!!!!
I’m not too impressed with the Sprint network coverage in rural areas, but in high density ‘city’ environments and along the highway, it’s as good as any other carrier.
One thing that I have found and really like is that this phone has an above average RF front end on it…. I have a Verizon phone through work and an ATT as a back up through work (both Blackberry, a Storm and a 95xx) and I have discovered that the RF signal is 8-11 dBm higher with the Samsung (-106 / -107 for the BB’s and looking at a -97 for the Samsung as I type).
And before you reply and tell me about towers….. I have checked the RSL in 6 different places yesterday and today while out working and the difference has consistantly been the 8-11 dBm that I indicated above.
Good voice quality, good range with Bluetooth devices, easy menu navigation, good security…. At this point I am only wondering about durability as I tend to be a little rough on phones, but we’ll see soon enough….
Oh yeah….. I almost forgot the best part…… 45/mo for UNLIMITED EVERYTHING hahahahahahahahahaha….hahahahahahahahaha….cram it Verizon / ATT

As far as i interpret the fine print, I would say yes. Netflix is a paid service, not P2P. You can’t use the phone to stream Netflix to another device, such as your laptop, however.

If Samsung wants to sell them, then get straighttalk to hook them up to any other towers besides Sprint. I can’t get service at home or work….and looking at other message boards this is common across the nation. Sending mine back…..I love the phone but what good is it if I get no service?!

Just an fyi – if you call straighttalk they will switch your number and everything to that card it may take a couple of days but when we did it to ours we got an extra 30 days of service.

Without exception…..every phone sold by Straight Talk is overpriced. As an example: One can purchase a Trac LG flip for $9.99. The exact same phone is sold by Straight Talk for around $30. Just look at it as a one time cost for a considerable break in the greater cost: The Plan minutes.

There’s a reason the big 3 have “free” phones, and smart phones that are priced WAY less than paying retail without a contract!

Again, I advise anyone considering purchasing any of the phones (smart or not) from Straight Talk to go to their web site and do the “enter the zip code” exercise for the area that the phone will be used in!

Slash Gear seems to think it’s a decent phone for an “out of the box” Android. As I’ve never used a phone with an Android operating system, I can’t respond from personal experience. I can tell you what I’ve heard from others. One of the main things that I’ve heard from friends and family that use Android based phones is that they tend to have WAY less glitches such as screen freezes and such.

If you buy the phone and don’t like it, you can return it. As it is a smart phone, it requires the $45/month card/plan. You don’t get your $45 back if you find that you don’t like the phone or it doesn’t work in your area. So….BE SURE TO CHECK ON THEIR WEB SITE PRIOR TO PURCHASING TO SEE IF THIS PHONE WILL WORK IN THE AREA YOU PLAN ON USING IT!

No – The phone can not be used with another company or carrier.

Each of the phones offered by Straight Talk has different coverage areas. It’s not something that’s advertised. As I can’t use this Android based phone in our area (neither Sprint or T Mobile work here), I looked up the review for the Nokia E5 here on Slash Gear. It’s set up rather like a BlackBerry (not my favorite set up). As Slash Gear gives it a decent review, I thought I’d see if it would work in our area…….BINGO! I ordered one from Walmart for $199 +$2.97 for shipping. I chose to order from Walmart even though I had to pay for shipping for 2 reasons. (1)There was a 10+ day waiting if I ordered from Straight Talk, and, (2) Walmart accepts PayPal. I received the phone in 3 days!

I will activate the phone on the 17th when my 30 card used for my simple slider expires. I will return to Slash Gear to post my review. I’m excited to FINALLY have access to a smart phone on Straight Talk! I’ll be paying $45/month for unlimited talk, text and web. And…..NO CONTRACT!

For others looking for a Straight Talk smart phone that can’t use the Android phone due to coverage……Try the Nokia E5. BE CAREFUL! There are a lot of the predecessors to the E5 on the shelf at Walmart. I have read a LOT of bad reviews on that model.

I’m SO glad I checked in here before buying this phone! It’s sold at our local Walmart, but, I wanted to get some info about the phone. I’ve been using a Straight Talk cheap slider for a year with the $30 card being enough for most months (1000 minutes, 1000 texts & some amt of internet which I rarely use, so I’ve never run out.)

It is what it is……a cheap way to talk and text. I rarely use the “browser” for anything other than checking the weather, the price of precious metals & facebook. It’s a stretch to call it a browser, haha

The fact that there was an Android based “smart phone” being sold off the rack for under $170 caught my attention.

I came home hopped online and read the comments about the carrier being Sprint. We don’t get Sprint here. I noticed the ad above the comments for the phone and opened it in another tab. There it is!! This wonderful Android phone from Smart Talk! Yay!

I proceed to click on the “GET YOURS NOW!” button which takes you to the the “BUY NOW but enter your zip code first” button. I enter my zip code and get the sad news that ” …this offer is not available in your area” Awww shucks *hears Price is Right fail sound.

Soooo…..if any of you all are considering this neat little phone…..you might want to either try the ad above and enter your zip code, or, go to the Straight Talk web site and see what’s available for your area. I had looked at their site the other day and didn’t see the Android phone available. Before you can pick from their very limited selection of phones, you have to enter the zip code where you will primarily be using your phone anyway.

This is why I never travel without my spare ATT back up phone. If I find myself in an area where my Straight Talk phone won’t work, I pull out my ATT phone. It’s setup where I pay only for the days that I use it. No contract. With this method I’ve been able to travel & stay in contact just about everywhere. It just took me a while to get over not having a hip or semi smart phone. I save enough every month to allow me to use an air card with my laptop. So I have 3G almost everywhere to get online (granted, I have to pull out my laptop to get the full experience) and pay only $30/month 10 out of 12 months for my primary phone.

I’ll keep watching for a smart phone that works in our area. I’d be more than happy to pay $45/month for unlimited talk, text & internet (with the limitations pointed out by our friends here at Slash Gear.)

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PHONE! I was told it was on the Verizon network and when I received it Friday I called to activate it and couldn’t get a signal. That’s when I finally found out it’s on Sprint only, which means you won’t be able to use it in most of the country. Not only that, you have to pay the $45 for the month even though you can’t use it, AND you have to pay to send it back. Total rip-off.

* What happens to the phone and the $150 paid for it, if you decide you do not like the StraightTalk/Sprint service? Can you use this phone with another company/carrier.

Lo behold I find out that Straight Talk (or Tracfone, who does the talking and inking of deals for Straight talk, and Net10), have just very, and seemingly rather covertly inked a new relationship with Sprint. Apparently it is Sprint’s network that will be used (primarily) for servicing this new drois introduction.

M828C – the C at the end of the name is usually inicative of CDMA. So in other words you’ll be making use of the Verizon network, which is good as far as I’m concerned. This goes for all of Tracfone’s subsidiaries, they all make use of Verizon’s network, as well as AT&T’s.
