I recently picked up the White G-Note by AT&T and have discovered
something that makes me feel quite cheated. All of the cool video
editing software is not there. If you want to edit photos you can manage
to do it through a back door of sorts, but no video. Before I purchased
it I was confident that this was indeed a part of what this phone had
to offer and now I find that I have been duped, apparently only the
international version has this software. I have never seen a review or
disclosure otherwise and I am quite disappointed in the reviewers online
for not pointing this out. Honestly, I will probably still keep this
phone, although as a matter of principle I may smite myself and return
it. I can say that the phone is great except for the fact that the
battery should be bigger, at this point the device can be a little
unrealistic. having a big screen isn’t so great when you can barely use
it. Even if they made the battery charge faster than that would be
great.

Currently, only compatible with ATT’s 3G network.

ATT’s version is supposedly the same as the Euro version but without the front home button in front and some minor software changes with ATT branding.

The phone feature will work with TMo but not the 3G since it’s imported to work directly with ATT’s frequency so you’ll end up using TMo’s EDGE instead of 3G (TMo has it’s own DUAL frequency of 1700/2100 mhz and most carriers/phones don’t 1) use 1700mhz or 2) don’t use both frequencies simultaneously).

Found this out when I had TMo from their tech support dept and many users on various mobile phone forums have also confirmed this!

But if you have a Wifi hotspot (home or wherever) then it’s not much of an issue. You still can access TMo’s EDGE network but it’ll be darn slo

You will need an on-the-go adapter and then you can plug in USB drives and mice, but modems may not work due to a driver usually being required.

Are you a troll?

Perhaps if you actually read what people are writing instead of spouting ideologies, you might understand why a digitising stylus has advantages over fingers.

Fingers just do not have the fine control that a stylus has.

One doesn’t need to use a stylus all the time, just when it is advantageous to do so.

As a math teacher, this is my dream device. I hate how crappy a capacitive stylus is on tablets and how I have to lug around a laptop, wacom tablet and set up photoshop just to make a quick help guide.
Now I can quickly make a help screen cast video and share it on youtube. All from my phone. Makes helping kids a snap.

Serius Alternative, but limited production, Exclusivities. Lack of use of other sale channel limits efforts for such excellent products. Nokia has same issues.

Aravind Pk – try using a different software keyboard than the Samsung Keyboard. It seems to cache alot of data and seemed to slow my GNote. I use Swiftkey X and my phone seems run faster. I installed the update for the one handed keyboard which was cool but it still seemed sluggish so i went back to the Swiftkey which has great AI predictions anyway.

As for how popular this phone is, 1 million have been shipped outside of the US in less time than the 30 million SG2 worldwide. Not quite a niche device.

And many stores would not be having large stocks of the Note, because of the many reviews making it out to be a ‘niche’ device, conjuring the sense that it won’t move.

Fairly balanced review, but all the reviews I have read seem to make out that there isn’t a market for a bigger phone, and so may unnecessarily put many people off.

One of the things I noticed about using the Note is that during calls I could just hold it securely against my face with open fingers. That is refreshinly less stressful than with smaller phones, like the iPhone 4s, which I have to grip with my fingertips, which I find is a lot more tiring.

The larger phone sizes, like the SG2 and Note, may just be more comfortable for a lot of people to use. Not everyone is comfortable with tiny phones. And a large part of the population doesn’t do everything with one hand.

One size does NOT fit all.

Original Galaxy Tab 7in is a phone.

Whatever they say about the Note (and I have never found anyone taking second look when I am using it – only 23% larger than SG2), the Tab really does look dorky as a phone!

Hi, i recently purchased this Note and started using it. I feel some sluggishness and slow performance in the mobile even when most of the apps are closed and i am closely watching the RAM. Though 1GB ram, it gives us only 800mb and even with default stuffs of the phone running and no apps occupying, it consumes 720mb out of 800mb. this gives much sluggish behavior and at times, when you unlock the phone, u need to wait for the home or desktop content to load for a while… :-( hmmm…

I have a program called TapeMachine from the market that records from either the front or rear mic and will continue recording even while in the note taking app. Not quite as nice as HTC’s TimeMark Notes app, but it does the job.

Yes it has voice recorder, and personally, I think this is the best phone I have ever owned period. I surf the Web constantly and the screen in the note I’d like a mini TV. Its such a joy to use. I hardly ever turn my home computer on at all. Yes its large but you get used to it extremely quickly and holding it to your head is actually quite comfortable. People will say it’s too big, but they can’t help loving the screen when they watch a you tube clip on it. You will love this phone. Funnily enough, women like it more than men, go figure.

I am thinking of purchasing this phone, apart from it satisfying many of my wants I can’t see to find any info on a voice recorder feature. Basically can I take this into a business meeting and use as a voice recorder? Thanks in advance for the help.

eventually, everyone will follow this size. 5.3 is just perfect. You might be self conscious at first when using it as a phone, however, sooner or later you will realize that you need all that real estate.
Ill never go back to anything smaller than 5.3.

Sounds to me like, if you’re not British (and thus not neurotically concerned about what people think about your phone size), it’s the ultimate phone! My SII is cool, but I’d like more room for more widgets on my 7 pages that fill up too quickly on this smaller screen.

software question: Does the “S-planner” calendar function allow you to color coordinate various appts?? Anyone know? I have 5 different schedules to track — I usually color coordinate each person’s appts (currently on PC in MS Outlook’s calendar or paper day-planner)….
