That’s even worse than the fact that they sued in the first place. I still don’t know how the courts allowed that to happen.

They won the lawsuit so probably Apple had a reason to sue in the first place.

To me it sounds like “this is nothing like Apple, but let’s tweak it a bit more, just to be sure… you never know with those people”. You don’t have to copy Apple to get sued by Apple, that was made abundantly clear by the ridiculous lawsuits.

“patent freedom” sounds to me like not only did they fully avoid the current litigations but they probably also tweaked some other stuff that could have eventually gotten them in trouble with future patent claims from Apple. Whatever the case might be, Samsung knows they did copy Apple, Im guessing they most likely thought they could just get away with it.

Not really, they were ordered to make changes to the Galaxy S II if they wanted to keep selling it, so they would simply be doing the same for any future devices.

Maybe. There was interest in doing a port for the Nexus S and an extremely pre-alpha build made, but it was never finished… Perhaps if someone has the know-how and perseverance it will happen for the Galaxy Nexus. (Also, it’s Tizen now, I believe :P)

“The court finds the Galaxy Nexus to be too similar to the iPhone when the iPhone is stretched, and the screen is bent. Samsung is ordered to pay $50 per phone to Apple.”

Samsung seems to be trying to avoid patents not jsut form Apple but also Microsoft. They are going to contribute to Tizen, open-source. Best of luck to Tizen =) I want to run a successful OS where there won’t be any Microsoft patents so they won’t make any money off it.

Im glad samsung is being smart this time around.. why invite trouble when you can spend the effort up front on alternative approaches.

Side note, does Google keep sd card slot off to avoid people dumping their new OS to a backup?

This, and the razr non removable bat door seem to acknowledge apples concerns about those oft-repeated complaints.

I agree. The only other thing I’d wish for would be super long battery life with a new battery technology like graphene, etc.

Nice work Google and Samsung…this is definitely my next device. I am glad i had the patience to wait it out passing on some cool Android devices…this piece of beauty was worth the wait. I don’t see a micro SD card slot but i will overlook that since it comes with 32GB internal memory. Slap on Tmo HSPA+ 21 or 42mbps on that baby and we will be ready to rock and roll.
