This is about handset interest…
If true t’would be awesome, MeeGo deperately needs some handset love from a major vendor.
Samsung have already dipped their toes into netboox/laptops w/MeeGo, & I hope they do more.

This makes more sense to Sammy than Nokia as the non-existent nokia laptop never made it to the light of day. This will boost Sammy in the ultra-light laptops to allow an alternative to the Win8 machines they will ship. Making Meego a phone-tablet-netbook hybrid OS makes a lot of sense as the mainstream OS strive to be very dedicated for each market segment.

Linpus and Mandriva are NOT high profile companies. They are not even low profile.
Nokia has already left.
Novell was bought out by Attachmate, So no idea if they will continue with Meego or not.
Intel and AMD left.

WebOS is also based on Linux kernel.

Maybe as a side project or as the focus of that Korean Gov sponsored OS for LG and Samsung. Don’t see them doing too much into it as they have Bada to work with.

This would be great. I’d definitely jump to Samsung phones if they’d adopt MeeGo. They already have a multiplatform approach, so why not! And if they get LG come aboard (also Korean), I’m sure HTC would follow. And there you have it Elop! The third ecosystem.

In the long run Android is a no-go, because it just isn’t a modern operating system. The graphics stack is crappy and it’s not actually good at multitasking. (Opinions, opinions, but with some knowledge). Therefore MeeGo will eventually be the one.

Well now it isn’t supported by anyone really…

Open or closed either way it is going to be another os that no one is really supporting in an already crowded market.

Why would Samsung jump into a pool that has already been left by Nokia and Intel when they’ve got their hands full with three other operating systems as it is.

If Samsung does make any major moves in the os market it is probably going to just be a wider bada rollout. It’s Linux based as well and Samsung has a vested interest in it already.

The problem with WebOS was that it wasn’t open source. If Samsung had bought the webos division, it would have had to invest a lot of its resources for its development as no other partner is supporting the platform. Meego on the other hand is open source and its development is handled by the Linux foundation. Moreover it is supported by lots and lots of high profile companies like Intel, AMD, Nokia, Novell, Linpus, Mandriva etc. And moreover since Meego is linux itself, the scope of app development is much more easier than any other platform.

,,nice,, I just got a $829.99 iPad2 for only $103.37 and my mom got a $1499.99 HDTV for only $251.92, they are both coming with USPS tomorrow. I would be an idiot to ever pay full retail prices at places like Walmart or Bestbuy. I sold a 37" HDTV to my boss for $600 that I only paid $78.24 for. I use EgoWîn.com

Just like they weren’t going to buy hp’s computer business, just like they weren’t going to buy webos.

Samsung is just at that special spot in the tech world right now where they’re on a roll so they’re the target of every silly acquisition rumor out there.
