I just want to know who did the market research on Apple’s behalf. Seems rather ridiculous that 80% of the people surveyed “believed the iPad and Galaxy Tab to be either “identical” or “similar in general impression”. Did they survey Apple’s loyal customers who jump to get every single new product deemed “magical”.

Of course they’re going to be bitter and hate anything not Apple. Duh! One has to only look around the net with all the iSheep calling foul on anything that might (using the term very loosely) resemble their beloved Apple devices. To them everything’s a copy even though that form factor has existed for a long time. But they’ll argue til their faces turn red that Apple’s “Innovative” and everything Apple puts out is the first time the world has ever seen anything like it.

What exactly is Samsung stealing from Apple products? Hardware? Apple doesnt make the hardware. Samsung made some of Apple’s hardware. OS? No, obviously thats different, and Samsung doesn’t make it. The design? A rounded square device with a touch screen… Apple didnt invent that. So what exactly are these people reverse engineering?

I see the Samsung-sponsored cronies are out in full force here. If you are going to blindly support your company in this way, perhaps you should couch your words a bit more effectively. No one wants Apple to stifle competition, but no one in the know wants a supercharged, no-technology company like Samsung to offer what amount to knock-off copies, purely designed around Apple’s products. And user777, nobody who has worked for or been associated with Samsung believes Samsung is a technology leader. If this is the case, why has the company only made two rinky-dink acquisitions in the last 15 years, and why is no significant R&D done outside of Korea.

Actually Samsung announced their Galaxy Tab 10.1v before Apple iPad2 and immediately after iPad2 was shown up they said their device needs to go back for a new design and get slimmer. Replacing the back 8MP cam with 5MP cam they presented a new improved version which is lighter, slimmer and faster than iPad2. That is called competition spirit and it is moving the technology and the market ahead. If you are able to produce better product then you will sell more.
Apple is playing dirty and they requested in California Court to receive every new Samsung device a month before it is announced – in case Apple has an IP design/UI claim they may stop every new Samsung smartphone/tablet before it comes to the US market. May be every new smartphone and tablet has to be approved by Apple before going to the market? May be Apple invented the smartphone and the tablet? Is there a market or only Apple monopoly on it?

I know a lot of people posting here do not like Apple, but just suppose that Apple’s claim is true? Suppose Samsung’s strategy is just to gather their (Korean-only) R&D staff around Seoul (there is no real research done in or outside Korea by non-Korean engineers), and somehow try to glean in advance as much as possible information on Apple’s design and interface through espionage, reverse engineering and the stealing of supposedly confidential information they receive from Apple in the manufacture (not design) of chips for Apple? The Samsung quote “we have patents on real technology” is a gem, but in a way that most of the posters here just don’t understand.

By the way, I just pa i d $21.87 for an i P a d 2-64GB and my boyfriend loves his Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS.
I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $657 which only cost me $62.81 to buy.

Apple do have ideas. Wazniac and Jobs had HUGE ideas. Lots of people do, some of them lead to great success, most of them get forgotten. The problem is that ego and money gets in the way. They imped progress and slow things down. Hence this stupid case!

I went to play with an iPad2 today, just to remind myself what Apple are really about:

It is a great tool (no jokes please) and a lovely design. So fast, smooth and clever. I felt like walking out with one on the spot. Then I remembered . . . Oh shit! . . . iTunes! No Flash! and the megalomaniac tenancies the company has shown ever since Steve Jobs visited the Xerox Labs and fell in love with the simple desktop analogy – Which Someone Else Had Invented!!!!!

I know. Apple bought the rights to some of that concept and did the very VERY hard work of making it a reality – like some cave dweller inventing fire.

In many ways the iPad2 experience is better than any Honeycomb tablet. But Honeycomb is really a public test-bed for the Android tablets of the future – unfinished, raw. We may begin to see the real deal – in Ice Cream; but what we have now is still really very much “in beta”.These “Trade Dressing plus a mixed bag of patents” disputes are temporary. I also think Apple are fighting the wrong battle here . . again. Long ago Jobs missed the point, while Bill was developing Windows and about to make Microsoft THE monster it became, he was looking the other way.

Apple is a brilliant company with good ideas and great designers. Focus on that Apple, stop being so paranoid and greedy.

Exactly! Apple’s arguments are far too general and petty and I do agree that “their” interpretation of the iPad infringement would also include digital picture frames. All I know is if I were the FCC I would more closely review Apple’s patent applications far more closely than they have been instead of mindlessly stamping approved on them without any cause. So careless of them. Screw Apple and their extremely Shady business Practices, cutting edge products or not they are a corrupt company.

Apple put together pieces of well known ideas, and added some very unique ideas of their own and successfully brought it to market. Samsung didn’t have to do that. They already knew what ingredients to add to profit from Apple’s R&D, Risk, and Innovation. Apple’s implementation and innovation of old and new ideas to produce the iPad was not a “successful implementation of a well known idea.” If so, why did most tech analysts laugh the iPad to scorn when it was first released.
