Dual SIM cards, not so fresh of an idea, dual SIM cards from a major manufacturer, and not an Asia-only handset, that’s a new idea. This time its coming from Samsung and is headed for mainstream Europe.

Why on earth would someone want a phone with two separate SIM cards? Several reasons, lets say you travel a lot, you could have one for local usage, and then one for travel, or one for work, and one for personal use, or you could be some sort of spy and need more than one phone number.
Who cares why you need a phone with two SIM cards, the fact is you can have it now. Both cards can work at the same time for calls, messages, mobile browsing, email, and carrier specific services, you just have to select which card you want to use at the time.

For incoming calls, if you see it coming in, it shows which card its from, if you miss it, it also shows which card it came from, and you can set a different ringtone for each card. The phone is only 2.5G as far as Internet access goes. It’s a slider with a 2.3-inch QVGA screen, a 3.2MP camera which is pretty nice, an FM radio, Bluetooth with A2DP, and tri-band GSM and EDGE connectivity.
There isn’t anything mentioned about any sort of flash storage, but it wouldn’t make sense to but A2DP on a phone that can’t store and play music, so I am going to assume it has some sort of storage. Regardless, you better have a good use for the dual SIM cards because this phone is going to cost you about $700 and should be available in Europe in November.

Does this phone support HD-SIM cards like the Mega-SIM that msystems came out last year before they were acquired by SanDisk? Spansion, Samsung, SanDisk, and Atmel all make HD (High Density)-SIM cards that store 4MB-1GB of Flash on them. This Samsung dual SIM phone may be one of the first that can access the Flash in the SIM cards.

I work out in the mines in WA where we have only telstra reception. In the city of Perth I prefer to use Vodafone because it is better value for money as Telstra is a major rip-off. Im sick of carrying two phones everywhere I go. Even though I have 2 lines of mobile access in Perth – I only have one line of mobile access in the outback. Dual sim phones make a lot of sense to someone like me who travels every 2nd week.

Hi!
+1Can someone tell me if the SIM1 will be deactivated after I switch to SIM2?
Jack October 8, 2008
I have the Samsung D880. It will receive calls on both sims at the same time. I.E. Both sims are active at the same time for receiving. Only one Sim is active for making calls. To change the outgoing call sim the phone will reboot.
+2PS. This phone works as a TriBand for only one sim and a DualBand for the other. I.E. This will NOT work as a Two sim phone in the US, as the third band (1900) is only available for one sim. It will work as a Two sim for Dual band (900, 1800) networks.

i just was to know the battery back-up of samsung dual mobile as compare to nokia its a second choice i guess????what makes this phone so special apart from dual sim???
+2Tolu January 7, 2009
Why can’t I make use the two sims at the same time, instead of having to change from one sim to the other if I want to send message or make a call. I know of a phone that does not need to reboot before you can make a call or send message. Can Samsung Industry find something to do to that? Samsung is my best phone, but that is the only thing I don’t like in the dual mobile.
