Slashgear reader Johnnie also checking in as a purchaser.

Best phone I've ever owned. TBH in my opinion, the sales are especially telling given the less than overwhelming release given the product by retailers. On release day at the ATT store in Maryland, over half the store was devoted to the Iphone and the Ipad. There was not a single floor model of the note for people to see or touch, nor was there a single advertisement or sign. Everything was behind the counter and you had to know it was there and ask for it by name. There were also almost no accessories. Even a week later, I went to Best Buy to try to pick up accessories, (in a different city in South Carolina) and there was again no floor model, no signs, and no accessories for sale. (they also had no phones in stock). Just yesterday, I was at walmart's cell ohone area in a 3rd city (upsate NY), looking for spare batteries or docking stations, and there were no accessories available whatever.

Samsung is advertising these, but I kinda think the retailers are attempting to make it flop. With the underwhelming support given by the retailers, the sales numbers are all the more impressive. The device is head and shoulders more usable than anything else currently on the market, and despite slashgears review, it's not embarrassing to use one as a cell phone at all, nor is it a niche product or a tablet replacement.. (most reviews I've read describe the Note in this type of way, but for once, the reviewers are in my opinion experiencing group-think, and have missed the boat.) This is clearly a phone, but one which is just large enough that it's actually pleasant to experience the web on.

Of note, a side flip case makes it even more pleasant. While I had no problems using the device previously, after I got the flip case (which integrates a back replacement to keep the phone thin) I could never go back. One ends up holding the phone more like a book, really just holding the case rather than the phone at all, to interact with the web or when using as an e-reader. (which the note shines at)

My only real complaint is twofold. First, the transmitter is stronger than usual, and gets picked up by my guitar amp and computer speakers creating an annoying beep at times, and second, it's easy to accidentally click the search button, particularly when using the pen. I'd like them to program the touchscreen to not recognize when the side of the palm is touching the device and one is using the pen.

But are you disputing Samsung's figures? My anecdotal evidence: I've seen 10 times more Galaxy Notes than WP7 mobiles on the streets (10:1) of Europe's second largest city (I take the central subway line every day) in the last month.
