Well, it really does not mean much, other than the consortium is now wholly owned by Samsung. I am pretty sure you will still see Sony on the Shelves at all their retail partners. Unless the news that brought me to this article, is wrong. Sony's problem is they are no longer the go to name, with so much competition. Instead of lowering prices, they are about the most expensive on the high end units than anyone, other than Pioneer high end series. I used to have about everything sony, but with the quality of Samsung and Sharp, along with better pricing, I have switched to LG in my Summer home and Samsung, and Vizios and Samsungs in our main home. I just bought the new Samsung 60 inch, 3D for $2399 at Costco, HH Greg and Best Buy are almost 600 more for the same TV

I love Sony TVs but monetary policy makes them way too expensive for other brand with comparable features. I have chosen Samsung and Lg. Features and price definitely influenced my purchases. I own quite a few Samsung Tv's and Gadgets. I'm happy with Samsung's offerings.
