There is no android phone out there which beats the iphone on EVERY field: BATTERY LIFE – none even come close, camera quality – some are comparable; SCREEN QUALITY (protection as well) – i guess super oled is ok, but did you know that the “retina” display draws HALF the power of the previous iphone panel, android lcd’s are still a notch down i’m afraid, also gorilla glass+oleophobic layer is galaxy s only IIRC; fever18THE WEB – android still doesn’t have bookmark folders (unforgivable), safari is still faster than everything except the nexus one… The iphone has a MUCH longer list of defects but it is the only device which feels complete today, with battery life set as prime focus. I’d never use one though…

Battery life is different on every Android phone, I get 16 hours of heavy use from mine which is sufficient to my purposes, and since all Android phones come with user serviceable batteries you have the option of replacing it with a spare or with a higher capacity battery unlike the iPhone which doesn't even let you access it. The Super AMOLED Display on the Galaxy S phone is equal to the iPhone retina display is all fields including power consumption (except of course the pixels). As far as web browsing goes, if you have enough bookmarks on your phone to need to organize them into folders then I'm sorry but you really need to get a life and put your phone down once in a while, but if you insist then there are a numbers of alternate web browsers available for Android (Skyfire, Opera, Dolphin just to name a few) and the iPhone limits you to only being able to use Safari, which I'm sorry but yes it is slower than the Android Browser (I have done side by sides with friends iPhones). The list of advantages to Android (OPEN SOURCE) devices is so long I cannot list it here, but trust me there is no comparison to the iPhone.

This article pretty muchs sums up why I sold my Android device, and got myself an iPhone. Never been happier. Don't get me wrong, I kind of liked the customizability of Android, it's lightyears ahead of what you can do with a stock iPhone. The thing is, everytime a new Android version comes out, touting great new features, you can only hope your device manufacturer will bother to provide an update at all. Unfortunately, more often than not, manufacturers lack the motivation to provide you with the latest and greatest. Sure, you can root you device and install a custom rom, but often this means you'll loose more functionality then what you actually gain (dedicated hardware not functioning anymore).
I'm by no means an Apple fanboy. I only own an iPhone 4 and an iPad. But at least I'm sure I can upgrade my device as soon as there is a software update available. I also have jailbroken my device (more or less the same as rooting), which gives me all the customization options I got on Android, and then some.
I feel the overall smoothness of the interface is also a big plus on the iPhone, as compared to any Android device.
If I ever buy an Android device again, it has to be a google-Android device, so at least I can upgrade without any hassle when a new version of Android appears (given the hardware supports it). But then again, that would seriously limit my choice, which was the main reason I bought an Android device in the first place.

how can you say that there isn't a single android device on par with the new iPhone, that's just crazy talk. The iPhone is so far behind the curve it can't even see Android.
I know man, sorry. This whole android scene isn't what i'd expected it to be a year past, it's far from having a linux powerhouse in your pocket, there is not a single device on par with the new iphone, tech-wise (bit harsh, true). Well mostly it's the lack of attention to the battery life and some retarded design notions, ah screw it i better shup up...

Dude, seriously harsh. I haven't rooted my Galaxy S yet it's still running Eclair, I'm just commenting on the fact that the vast majority users will root to get Gingerbread if Samsung doesn't do it for us, because the phone is freaking compatible with the OS. and there's no way you can deny that TouchWiz sucks, I use ADW.Launcher it's way better than TouchWiz or Launcher Pro, and it doesn't require root. Now seriously calm down before you give yourself an aneurism.

The default skin on the galaxy s family of phones is awful and laggy and installing the launcher pro app (no root required) improves it no end. I have the international Galaxy S and after the appalling amount of time for the update, the broken promises and then the fact that the update was sub par has made me decide not to get a samsung again. This announcement just confirms my choice.

They make nice phones but ruin it with the poor software, since the froyo update I can't use the default sms app and have had to install a third party app. It took me about an hour and a half just to get my phone connected to kies to update in the first place. In this day and age I can send a message and get a reply from deepest countryside in the UK to Australia in 10 seconds but samsung cant manage to get a phone joined by a cable to a computer be visible to their software.

Every owner??? Do you really think there aren't people out there who just want to use a phone as it is, be it a smartphone or not? I have a smartphone and there is no way I'd ever root it, I've had enough of the retarded tech microsurgery in my 15 years of dealing with windows. I'm pretty sick of all that talk, especially when you people bring those moronic benchmarks into the discussion... Sorry if I was a bit rough

I wonder if Samsung realizes that if they don't release Gingerbread on the Galaxy S then every Galaxy S owner will just Root and install a custom Gingerbread ROM.
