The problem with the Nexus One is that there was no marketing for it. Coupled with the fact that it is not sold in store how typical Americans purchase their cell phones. It is a marketing failure. The only people that really know about it are those that visit Tech websites like you and me. Sure there was a brief news blip about it on more mainstream news but for the most part people don't see much difference between it and a Droid. If you want to change how things are sold you have to tell people about it. That's my only advice for google is everything can't work by word of mouth if there is a set precedent and compatible alternatives sold by the more recognized way. They sell iPhones in stores why not the Nexus One?

Not hard to believe they are having trouble selling these via their current methodology... and the Tmobile thing was surely just a joke? Personally, unless something unusually exciting shows it's head in the next few weeks, I'm planning on upgrading to the nexus as soon as it comes out on verizon. (I'm currently on a storm 1, so it's really really time for an upgrade.)

Digitalzen, I'm not to worried about verizons handbooks... I never even read any of them from my last 3 verizon phones, so I couldn't even agree or disagree as to whether they are competently written. If a phone REQUIRES a manual to operate, it's probably already got problems to be honest. (that's what got me off the windows phones... the move to RIM where synching just happened? That was a magical moment! I had given up synching my old windows based phone... You'd upgrade to the latest synching program and then find that they would no longer synch unless you also purchased their latest and greatest version of Office.) I'm personally with verizon because most of the other carriers are either a joke for people who have to travel nation wide, like T mobile, or drop calls/not enough high speed internet/hit you with all sorts of little fees like AT&T. If/when that changes, I'll jump ship happily, but in an imperfect world, I'll happily stick with the carrier who's given me the fewest problems/greatest coverage.

I might add, however, that while competent to get you busy using the appliance, Motorola and Verizon's help both leave a lot to be desired. I've learned more from the forums than from their superficial handbook.

I would have bought the Nexus 1, even with the T-Mobile albatross around its neck, had it not been for the lousy initial customer service. I didn't have time to fool around learning a new system without competent help -- and Google is famous for poor help, even with things that they develop themselves.

So I got a Droid, and Verizon along with it. Haven't looked back yet, and with 2.1 coming to Droid in the next few weeks, no reason at all to start.
