Rumors come, and then they’re smashed. That’s just how this industry goes. Sometimes they actually turn out to be true, but I’d venture to say that a vast majority of them turn out otherwise. Such is the case of Final Fantasy XIII’s 2008 release date.

This one actually came from the mouth of a Square Enix employee, so it seemed to have a bit of credit behind it. Unfortunately, it sounded too good to be true, and was later proven to be so. Square Enix made an official statement saying that they have made no official statement, and anything we’ve heard so far is nothing more than hearsay.
I’d say that it may still be safe to hope for a playable demo sometime this year, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. Sure, I’m a bit bummed to hear this, but I can’t say that I’m too surprised. Besides, the year’s barely begun, there are plenty of other good games to look forward to.

LoL, ok wait…so they didn’t give you a date? And you’re saying no FFXIII this year? Aren’t you then…creating rumors yourself? The correct Title should be, ‘Rumor of FXIII incorrect…SE not discounting release in 2008 however.’ The biggest, and most important facet of this WHOLE thing, however, is that a demo is expected ’soon’, according to Square-Enix. And rarely are demo’s for games released more than a month or two of the launch date of the real thing (Accept for GT5, but that’s different).
Can you just…you know…stop writing? I mean, you get paid to write…why don’t you…employ I dunno, editors? Or you know, maybe some monkeys to come up with titles for you.

Since the game wasn’t believed to be released at all in 2008 until the recent comments by Tetsuya Nomura, I’m inclined to believe that the release date is once again sometime in 2009. It seemed like a bit of a stretch to get it out in 2008 anyway.

The point isn’t that odds are good it’ll be out in 2009, the point is, SE hasn’t confirmed a date yet, so saying rumor smashed for 2008, is misleading and inaccurate journalism. This writer should know better.
