Way back in October we heard a juicy rumor that BioWare was working on a Star Wars MMO. This was some kick-ass news considering what an awesome job they did with KotOR. Unfortunately that rumor has been confounded by another rumor. Well, kind of.

Vader

The latest rumor is that there is a Star Wars MMO coming in 2009, however, neither BioWare nor SOE is working on it. I guess that BioWare could be making another one, set to debut in 2009, but that sounds really far-fetched. The non-BioWare MMO is supposedly set to debut at the same time as the live-action Star Wars TV series.

I certainly hope that the rumor is at least true in one respect: SOE is not involved. I played Star Wars Galaxies back in the day, (pre-WoW days) and it was the best MMO I’d played. Then one day SOE got the grand idea to completely change the game to make it easier for the more casual gamers. This of course completely ruined the game. Needless to say, I haven’t logged back on in a long time.

I recommend you try SWG again. Its way,way better than the NGE now. The current dev team have done wonders.

Swg isn’t as good as it was,but it did change slightly for the better. Lol it’s like when you break a vase then try to glue it back together so no one finds out. It’s not as good as it once was but it’s holding. I’d say give it one more shot, you never know may enjoy it.

It’s still the NGE. I played SWG from launch of 03 until a month or so after the NGE took effect, and just recently tried to play it again to no avail in amusement. I’m not one of those “take it back to Pre-CU” fanbois. I had a blast with the CU as well, but the game as it is now is dead. It lacks any sense of creativity (collections and expertise are nothing new to MMOs) and the fact that they brought back Creature Handler in the form of “Beast Master” proves that the SWG dev team knows they screwed something up and are too proud to admit it.

Gotta agree with a couple of the posts above, SWG as it is now is getting very close to rivaling its pre-cu days. the current Dev team are great, really hands on and actually listen and chat with the playerbase. It’s really worth a try again!

as someone who has and still is playing since launch i can tell you any improvements they make now will come too late(think me262s in ww2) most of the good people p of swg have long since quit the game (alot were my friends) I think at this point most people who were die hard gamers are sick of how they were treated combined with the fact the game is now old, just hope swg goes and someone can get it right for swg2 or whatever they decide to name it.

I embrace the irony when I say that I never for a day stopped playing SWG but that I can’t recommend it to fomer players or new.

Pre-NGE players will be confounded by the new game and will likely experience the same longing for the “old game” that those of who stuck with it still talk about. We have adapted over time, but the game isn’t what it was.

For new players there are better games out there… SWG is still plagued by bugs and the uncomfortable belnding of the old and new. Also there are far too many servers for the number of players left–a sad fact that apparantly has no good solution.

The game is not COMPLETELY ruined. You jumped onto the bandwagon with other spoiled complainers and left. Boo-hoo…..get over it. You can’t go through life without change, so you either adapt or get left behind.
SWG has had and continues having numerous changes. More planets, Kashyyyk, Mustafar, space and spaceships have been added along with more quests and a PvP city in Restuss…..the list goes on.

SOE has added many beneficial things to the game and have an open ear to the users/players.
