Ruggie makes you step on it to silence morning alarm

Waking up early is difficult, and thanks to the ever present snooze button, many people have overslept their alarm and ended up late to work. We've seen various solutions to that, some more complicated than others, and Ruggie is newest among them. Rather than putting the snooze button in a different room or disabling it altogether, Ruggie simply requires you to step on it.

Ruggie features a memory foam pad and a digital clock embedded in the upper corner. Once the alarm goes off, it can only be shut off by putting one's feet on the mat for three seconds. After the alarm turns off, the mat offers up motivational audio to encourage its owner not to crawl back into bed.

The mat is designed to match basically any decor, featuring a simple white color and light blue LED display. The LED display can double as a night light, as well, though it'll turn off after 20 seconds to avoid disturbing sleep. The mat measures 15.5 x 23.5-inches, and has a customizable alarm.

The company behind Ruggie has exceeded its $36k goal with more than $81,000 USD in funding and 51 days remaining. Interested backers can pledge $79 USD to get the Kickstarter pack, which includes a Ruggie mat, USB cable, and an ebook on how to wake up early. The estimated retail pricing will be $99 USD. Shipping to backers is estimated to start in September.
