Roku unveils open content delivery platform and first 10 channels

Roku has announced that its new open platform for delivering content to the TV is now available. The launch of the open platform also brings with it the first ten channels for the open platform service. The first ten channels are free for Roku users to view.

The channels include Pandora, Facebook Photos, Revision3, Mediafly, TWiT, blip.tv, Flickr, FrameChannel, Motionbox and MobileTribe. Roku reports that there are several other developers working on channels that will be offered.

The platform is expected to be adopted by other developers over time. Developers can get the SDK needed to build channels for the platform for free. New channels will be added to the Roku Channel Store automatically as they become available and all Roku players are compatible with the new offering.
