Roku set-top boxes to get live Disney and ESPN content

Roku offers a popular line of set-top box hardware that allows users to stream all sorts of digital content to their televisions. Roku announced today that it has a new content deal in place with Disney and ESPN Media Networks. This content deal delivers live programming, events, and video via the Roku streaming platform from both Disney and ESPN channels.

Starting today Roku customers who are able to receive ESPN linear networks as part of an affiliated video subscription will be able to access content from ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN3, ESPN Deportes and ESPNEWS through the WatchESPN channel on their Roku device. When in season, ESPN Goal Line and ESPN Buzzer Beater will also be accessible.

WatchESPN on Roku set-top boxes also gets a new on-demand video offering featuring recent content. Roku also says that later this month customers with video subscriptions from affiliated providers will be able to access WATCH Disney Channel, WATCH Disney Junior, and WATCH Disney XD.

Roku says that the affiliated television providers cover 55 million homes across the country allowing those homes to access the new content via their Roku devices. Affiliated cable and satellite networks include Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks, Verizon FiOS TV, Comcast's Xfinity TV, Midcontinent Communications, Cablevision's Optimum TV, Cox, AT&T U-verseĀ® TV, Charter and Google Fiber. Roku says that NRTC members will soon have access as well.
