RoboErectus Jr Plays Soccer, Won't Make it to the World Cup [Video]

Considering the World Cup is set to start off in less than a day, it's pretty remarkable we're of the mind to still write. Yes, we love soccer, but it has to take a close second to our first love: technology. And robots, of course. So, the fact we get a robot that's playing soccer, well, that just makes our day. So hopefully it will bring a smile to your face, too. Meet RoboErectus Jr.. He may not be the next Cristiano Ronaldo, but he's definitely got some skills hidden away in that mechanical frame. Check the video out after the break.

No, this isn't the first time that a robot has been shown off playing soccer, but it's a pretty hard task to complete. And, to say that this one does it pretty well is an understatement. It won't blow your mind (unless watching a robot throw a soccer ball blows your mind), but it's still pretty awesome to see where we're heading. RoboErectus Jr. was developed at the Robotics Center of Singapore Polytechnic, and he goes through some paces while people take candid photos of him.

There's no telling when robotic players will start stealing the spots of flesh-and-blood players, but if this is any indication, it won't be tomorrow. Either way, the videos are worth watching. We just can't hide our enjoyment with the combination of our two loves.
