No one here hates bb, I think. but respect for the dead while they are still living sounds worse than a upset user. This company should have been able to beat the pants of any smartphone that arrived and set the standard, they knew change was coming and refused to honor those who invested so much time and effort in supporting them. How can I respect a neglectful father?

Then RIM is the source of its own downfall, like the grandfather that refuses to get a dvd player cause nothing is wrong with his old vhs player. I used to adore blackberry phones, till I got a droid, and an Ipod touch, RIM is so out of touch that they cant survive. Would it really be so hard for them to make a modern device that suits the casual owner and another device geared toward business owners concerned with security?

It's one of the reasons they still have any customers. Don't confuse doing badly with there being nothing of worth still being offered.

RIM just can't rely on those old strengths anymore and they need to do a lot better to stay in business. So we'll see if they are capable of that next year.

RIM has pioneered a large amount of features found in modern phones and although I agree that the future of RIM looks bleak, I think it's important that RIM continues to be respected as a Pioneer in the smart-phone market. Maybe you're waiting for something to finally off RIM but personally if RIM does go under it will be a sad day in my opinion. Although I'm strictly Android in today's age, I still hold RIM and BlackBerrys close to my heart. So in other words, stop hating. :)

RIM has strange culture and self distruct political environment.

In RIM if a new hired person figure out major problem and introduce efficient approach, both manager and his buddy group member will proof their wrong approach works. just like someone point out driving a car is right way, pushing a car is wrong way, then both manager and his buddy group member will hate you, and proof that 3 person can also move the car by pushing it. cheating email will be sent to some vice president, saying like: see, the car moving, pushing a car is a natural part of the process, in order to deny new hired contribution of introducing skill of drive a car, they have to deny merit of driving a car.

It is very strange company culture and strange company political environment, it promote stealing and cheating skill. RIM's management may be a typical instance in MBA course.

This culture deny or steal hardworking team members' contribution/innovation, generate strange political environment, destroy RIM.

Problem with most phone keyboards is the lack of consistency as layouts and designs can change significantly from one phone to the next.

It is interesting to see how times have changed so fast. 5 years ago John Dvorak wrote an article entitled "Apple should pull the plug on the iPhone". He argued that Nokia and Motorola have and will dominate the cellphone market. Now Motorola Mobility is owned by Google and Nokia sold its soul to Microsoft to double down on a bet that Windows 8 Mobile will take off. Now we have RIM seriously on the ropes after ignoring complaints by both end users and IT managing the handsets and server software. RIM must have been looking at MS as their inspiration: Once we lock in business customers, they can't leave.

I loved my blackberry dearly and didn't wanna let go of it...until I dropped it from the 3rd floor about 6 months ago...at that point getting a new one would be silly, as RIM has already started dying...I cringed at the though of not having a physical keyboard and inferior email...what I found is that I can type FASTER with my iPhone keyboard once I got used to it and the apps for my various email accounts are way more POWERFUL than anything that a text-based interface of a blackberry ever had to offer me...Another huge improvement I saw in internet browsing and many, many, many apps that I use for almost every aspect of my life now from bank accounts to hiking trails to fishing to amazon.com to BBC news, the list goes on and on...Blackberry used to be a great phone...Touchscreen is the way of the future (although I admit that it takes some getting used to (give it about 1-2 months))...BTW everything I do on my iPhone I see my friends do on Android, so either one of those is fine (basically this is the part where I separate myself from Apple fanboys)...
