In ways this could be good for RIM seein as there outage not long ago turned quite a lot of people against RIM and bosses of big companys using blackberry soley for the purpose of email, if RIM sold out to a company like samsung then merged andriod and BBM now that is a smart move.
Samsung / RIM would be awesome if they can pull off the integration. Samsung's appealing hardware is what RIM lacked, but integrating BBOS, enterprise security and email will be their challenge. RIM obviously does not have the hardware or software engineering expertise to do so in the speed ghe market needs.

I agree that it does make a lot of sense for these two companies. Not to mention that the QNX platform is something Samsung can use in a wide range of products from medical to home entertainment--a much more unifying OS than their current strategy. Samsung has departments for just about everything you can imagine and they really do need one platform for everything and QNX was designed just for that purpose.

Combine that with what Samsung has been doing with Bada & Tizen. They could make QNX the core of the OS and use their Bada UI rather easily and if they open-source it. . . . . wow.

The biggest problem with RIM is they have weak R&D and can't elegantly fill their phones with the latest fancy smartphone hardware such as fast processors, memory, cameras, screens, etc. All these are Samsung strengths. RIM's greatest strength is enterprise level brand equity and OS technology, all Samsung weaknesses. This deal makes sense strategically. Not sure if this deal makes sense financially as I don't know what prices are being discussed.

This could do wonders for RIM with Samsung already leading the smartphone market by volume. You have to wonder though where is the appeal for Samsung?
