Rey fans, rejoice! The Force Awakens Monopoly will feature the heroine

Star Wars fans who are also into board games were in an uproar this week, as it was discovered that a new version of Monopoly based on The Force Awakens was missing one of the new movie's most important characters. The game comes with four board avatars, with Finn and Kylo Ren representing some of the franchise's latest characters, while Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader are the classics. This selection left out a central female character, and arguably the new movie's main hero: Rey.

Fortunately the uproar, which was collected on Twitter under the hashtag #WheresRey, got Monopoly maker Hasbro's attention. The company has now said that a Rey figurine will be added to the board game later this year. "We love your passion for Rey, and are happy to share that we will be including her in the Monopoly: Star Wars game," Hasbro stated in a post on Twitter.

The board game company originally tried to defend its decision of not including Rey by saying that it wanted to avoid spoiling the movie's plot, which basically focus on Rey becoming the hero and taking on bad guy Kylo Ren. It's hard to see how including a figure of a character that is prominently featured in The Force Awaken's poster would spoil the story, but that was their reasoning.

While the good news here is that Rey will eventually make it into the Monopoly: Star Wars' box, Hasbro unfortunately hasn't elaborated on details such as when the figure will be released, or if it will be used to replace one of the four existing characters already included.
